The NFL wants to take over every day of the week. Supposedly they even had a problem with college football with their playoff games overlapping their scheduled NFL games last Saturday.. and college football is their free pipeline, player development, and marketing as people follow college stars to the pro team that drafts them. Imagine that. Christmas games were always set aside for the NBA while Thanksgiving was the NFL's property. But now they want Christmas too even if it means cattle whooping four teams to play 3 games in 11 days just so they can do have their product out and kick the NBA out of Christmas day.

Of course if Christmas were to fall on a Sunday, Monday, or even a Thursday there there's no up in arms of NFL Christmas games on TV. But on a Wednesday?? A Wednesday!! That's damn near act of war and a "F*ck you and your league, Christmas is now ours!" message to Adam Silver and the NBA. And the hoard of NFL heads, MAGA, and the likes screamed out "The NBA is dead, we're watching the NFL on Christmas!!" days prior. And this also ties in to a pounding that the NBA has taken from complaints about the play and the ratings drop. But a funny thing happened yesterday on Christmas.. The NFL was raw sewage from top to bottom, people didn't even like Beyonce's performance, and the NBA fired on all cylinders and crushed them in actual gameplay, watchability, fun, and excitement! I don't care what the ratings say, the NFL was straight garbage and the NBA shined and blew them out of the water. It wasn't even close imo. Its a small victory, the league needed this badly, and I'm going to pump this just as hard as the crowd who constantly sh*ts on the NBA 24/7/365. F*ck you Goodwill, you might have ratings, but you lost in the public's eye on the biggest holiday of the year where you tried a hostal takeover. Sure I watch the NFL, but they ain't sh*t outside of Sundays & Mondays. The NBA is my league! Let's Go!

A lot of nfl games are garbage , especially tnf. It’s going to get worse when the 18 game season comes. Guys need 6 days to get ready for game (it’s a regimented routine) and then when you force them to play 3 games in 11 days it throws everything off. Yes they are out there but their production is horrible. Just look at the Steelers yesterday.

Thursday Night Football has been their worst Product for years and they probably had games with more viewers than a Finals game.

I'm actually surprised the NFL players union signed off that this. That's dangerous what they just did having these guys play 3 games in 11 days. Like I said I get if Christmas is on a Sunday, Monday, Thursday, hell even a Friday and Saturday would get a pass for NFL games. But on a Wednesday? That means its war and Silver and the other leagues are going to have to watch out and suit up for combat. Nobody is going to program a game to go up against the Superbowl, that would be suicide, but every league respects it as their day and bows down to it. Thanksgiving Thursday as well. But the NFL runs America and wants the entire pie now. Just look at the comments in here.. "Lets see what the ratings have to say about this!" even though they saw a sh*t NFL product and an exceptionally good NBA product yesterday in plain view. People protect "The Shield" (NFL) at all costs even on a NBA forum.

LeBron/ Steph / Durant has been carrying the league for years , who’s going to do it after them ?

That’s a different discussion. Christmas should be the NBAs day, that’s all. The league is definitely in a bad place overall though.

The NFL on Christmas was predictably terrible: the players had only a few days off, they were completely lethargic which naturally resulted in two awful games.

The Ravens vs. Texans game was absolutely embarrassing.

I was gonna say, i gotta wait to see the ratings. I watched both the NBA and NFL yesterday.

I will say, that is the most NBA i have watched in a single day in many many years.

Putting all 5 games on ABC was a smart move, could watch every game for free with a digital antenna. If the NBA wants to be competitive, need to start making their product more accessible.

Agree this is good strategy and should use more. In the past you had games in ESPN, then TNT, then ABC, ot whatever order. Putting them on one network over the air is the way to go. This is how you capture casuals.

NBA is fine when it's stars actually play.....I'm not tuning into the Sixers-Celtics game if PG and Embiid weren't playing.

Is this Adam Silver’s burner account? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone ever get so passionate about a sports league.

I’m a basketball fan first and foremost by a wide margin, and don’t give a **** about the NFL shield. I didn’t watch a single second of the NFL games. I also stated before in a recent post the other day that I don’t like the compacted NFL schedule, wouldn’t watch on Xmas and laughed at their ‘player safety’ hypocrisy.

That doesn’t mean I’m not going to point out that a thread seems weird to me based solely on competitiveness of games, in a single day, without considering any viewership context. Like asking about ratings is some major offense!?

Now that there’s some actual data out that viewership was up, it’s a nice W for the league and the thread would’ve made much more sense alongside that info. (that wasn’t available when the thread was created).

Regardless, congrats on Xmas, Mr. Silver!

Make sure to click "show more" and then do so again to get extensive info/ratings on each game.

Based on what NFL Media put out, it sounds like their ratings exceeded expectations, despite the games not being competitive or as competitive as the NBA. I’m sure the halftime show drew a ton of additional viewers.

The NBA had more competitive games for sure. But I don’t know why we have to make this an NBA vs NFL debate or why we need to argue over who was better. Having options is great for fans. I’d rather have the option to watch either sport than to not have the option.

Slate was just better for NBA. Had it been like Bills v Chiefs ..

Really? There were 4 playoff teams in action, two of them legit superbowl contenders. Nothing wrong with the slate...just the games turned out to be complete ass.

It's like, you have to have had it explained to you by now, so either you're intentionally misunderstanding because you want to make a point, or you're just dumb. Either way it's pointless to keep trying to explain it.

Maybe you’re not as informed as you think you are if you’re under the impression that every tv, cable box, or satellite dish is automatically configured to send out of ratings data. You have to be part of the Nielsen survey for them to get your data. All the changes in media consumption are taken into account. And it’s not like all the changes in media consumption you’re alluding to have just happened yesterday. We’ve had high speed internet, streaming sites, smartphones, etc for many years now. There’s also been a huge drop in ratings just from last year.

Both NFL games were blowouts.

The NBA had all good games, and I think the first animated game on Disney+ was a way to make the game fun for kids.

NBA was a much better product, but not at all surprised to see the NFL 5x the viewership ratings.
