Would you be the saying the same thing if the Celtics win the chip again next year, Tatum wins FMVP & the Spurs miss the playoffs ?

Because that’s a very good possibility.

of course. Wemby is a generational talent and I would not use just 1 season to go sour on him. Players like Tatum are dime a dozen.

But we’re talking about next season & next season only ?

Also, lol at "dime a dozen." Three-time First Team All-NBA and just turned 26.

We get it, Wemby is more talented than Tatum. That's not the question. The question is for next season alone.

Yeah that’s why I find it bizarre how lopsided the votes are. Do I think Wemby’s going to be definitively better than Tatum in 2-3 years ? Yes, but I think Tatum’s going to be a lot better this upcoming season. The pressure’s off him now & he’s going to be one year further into his prime years.

Wembanyama is like Lebron and Tatum is like Pierce. Except Pierce has good players around him this time. Tatum >>> Wembanyama.

Feels good to be one of the ones who kept posting how ridiculous people were for choosing Wemby this season.

The funniest part is people saying how "insane" people were for picking Tatum. It's one thing if you picked Wemby, that's understandable because he has a lot of talent so there was a potential there. but people were acting like tatum had no chance at all of being better this season which is what makes the bump funny.

I have to think people misunderstood the question here…
Of course you would take Tatum for this season.
Of course you would take Wemby longer term.

Even this season, Wemby looks pretty good:
* Field Goal Percentage: Wemby (47.6%) > Tatum (45.3%)
* 2-Point Field Goal Percentage: Wemby (61.7%) > Tatum (55.0%)
* Effective Field Goal Percentage: Wemby (56.1%) > Tatum (54.7%)
* Free Throw Percentage: Wemby (85.9%) > Tatum (80.0%)
* Total Rebounds: Wemby (10.4) > Tatum (8.9)
* Steals: Wemby (1.3) > Tatum (1.2)
* Blocks: Wemby (3.4) > Tatum (0.5) [Wemby leads the league in this category]
* PER (Player Efficiency Rating): Wemby (24.0) > Tatum (23.2)

If you look at metrics that track impact on winning like EPM and LEBRON, Tatum is a fair bit ahead. Wemby is awesome but he is not there yet.

You're being very gracious in the first sentence. I think almost all people understood that is for this season and chose to vote the way they did anyway. . It comes from an underestimating and/or dislike of Tatum. It's too bad.
I agree with both of the other sentences. Wemby will ultimately be generational as long as he can stay reasonably healthy,

Kinda depends on the context, no?

Tatum suits Boston very well. His scoring later in the playoffs, meh, but they defend well and have such team offense, and he knows how to get out of the team's way and use himself as a decoy when his 3 isn't falling.

But there are other places where you'd rather have Wemby, if you already have comparable or superior scoring in place. Like, why would Golden State want Tatum? They don't need a volume scorer and they COULD use the interior finishing and defense which Wemby brings... plus he can step out and hit some 3s, so he suits their style of offense as well.

Fit is important.

There should not be any doubt in anybody's mind now. Wemby > Tatum and the gap will continue to increase that in 2 years this thread will look like an insult to Wemby.

What is this incessant need to valid Wemby as the best player on this board? We get it. He’s the future goat. Enjoy your generational talent and let all of us other fans be happy with our players.

So you think Tatum is better? Because authoring an argument to defend that position would actually be useful in the context of this conversation.

I think the Celtics fandom have every right to enjoy their player who helped bring another championship to their franchise. And should most definitely be hopeful that said player can win back-to-back championships.
