Two trash NFL games on Christmas and a massive stinker last night with the Bears & Seahawks. Yeah we know, they got the ratings, but their product is absolute garbage outside of Sundays & Mondays.

At least I don't post using a phone lol.

If you like the NFL still by all means watch man. I don't care. But if you can't laugh at that irony...you can't laugh.

You must be too old to use a phone   And that rant must be your "get off my lawn!" moment. I'm getting off now. Please don't talk to me again.

It's mostly old people who use their phones instead of using non mediocre products. But ok...you're 12 and the NFL is the bestz

An old man went to the doctor. The doctor says: "I'm afraid I have bad news. You have cancer... And you have Alzheimer's."
The old man says "Well, at least I don't have cancer!". This must be you lol.

Trust me, you can do a lot on your phone. You're totally missing out. You can even watch games on it. I know, it's a shocker! By the way, I've learned it's best to avoid grumpy old mans like you, so I'm getting off your lawn again.

those numbers are misleading imo

interest in the NBA (and viewership) may be dwindiling in the U.S compared to the NFL but internationally the NFL holds very little appeal and the NBA is exploding. money wise, advertisers wise, merchandise wise - does it really matter if the ppl paying for the product are from Europe, China or the states?

Season ticket sales are a huge part of how individual franchises make money, so to answer your question yes it does matter since fans in Latvia aren't in a position to drive revenue the same way for teams as domestic fans are.

That being said, I don't see any compelling evidence that NBA attendance actually is in decline right now. But if and when it gets to that point it's definitely going to be time to hit the panic button a little bit, regardless of how many Slovenians are rushing out to buy Luka jerseys.

huge part? I think it's only about 20%, not the lion's share of revenues by any stretch of the imagination

You asked if it matters and the answer is clearly yes, it does. Are you seriously trying to argue that point right now with me?

Ticket sales are 26% of team revenue according to this source (over 1/4)

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/how-much-do-nba-teams-make-in-revenue/

26% in and of itself is in fact a huge chunk of potential revenue as any business owner would tell you. But then you factor in team sponsorships, local media deals, concessions/parking etc. and it balloons to well over 50% of how a team generates income. So yeah.... I don't really think I should have to explain to you why local revenue sources are generally going to be far more significant to teams than international "growth" via merch sales.

And the irony is back. Watching movies on a small phone is everyone's dream right?

Yes, you're right most games outside of Sun/Mon are crap simply because teams don't get enough time to prep and plan for the game. But 90% of regular season games in NBA are even worse because players don't give a crap and nobody plays defense. It's gotten so bad that Silver had to come up with a gimmick mid season tournament just to entice the players into playing harder in the regular season. It's one of the reason why regular season ratings have been so crap.

In-season tournament >> Needing Taylor Swift & Beyonce for growth and ratings. God forbid the Chiefs win it all again, if so the league is cooked. They eliminated the importance of the running back and promoted the quarterback, now the QB play sucks outside of a few stars. Every team runs the same offense, the players are abused/3 games in 11 days, nothing but flags and commercials all game long, etc. See how easy that is. But I know, 20 million viewers per game even though the games are trash. Hopefully they can get their act together this weekend cause man, its been a sh*t show of a product these last couple of days. Don't forget you're on a NBA forum Mr. Goodell. Try again.

You have absolutely no idea about the NFL gameplay, but there's nothing wrong with that. No need to be sensitive. I honestly don't know why NBA fans care so much about their ratings in the first place, it's not like they get a piece of that pie. I watch NBA too, just not as much as I used to. Nice talking to you Mr. Silver.

No ideal about NFL gameplay? LOL, Ok bud, whatever. Not sensitive at all. I watch both leagues as well and I didn't like them interfering with college football's playoff Saturday either. But I didn't start this thread. Enjoy your day.

So it's like the NBA, but they actually have days where their product is good.

Agreed.. its just that all things NFL related is considered God's gift to America and can do no wrong while the NBA sucks and "I don't watch that sh*t". No doubt the NFL is #1 in America, but I'm sick and tired of the narrative, especially from right wing conservative America.
