CLE/LAL

Post#1 » by bgrep14 » Fri Dec 27, 2024 1:40 pm

CLE: Okoro, Niang, and TT

LAL: Rui and Wood

Lakers get a young perimeter defender that they currently lack and floor spacing big both who fit well with LeBron

Cavs get a bit more size that they can use and a bit more versatility.

I think I’m alone so the OP is probably a good idea, but I wouldn’t trade Okoro for Rui.

That's where I am at as well. Okoro is a cheap option, and Wood is basically unplayable, whereas Niang can still add value on the court.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Who knows if the NBA is going to continue allowing players to be more physical defensively on the perimeter, but Okoro is simply worth more to the Cavs than he was with how the league is being officiated. This is worth considering even if I'm not sure I'd do it.

Lakers can throw in Maxwell Lewis if that's their biggest concern.

Feels generous to me too. Rui projects better on paper than on court impact imo. He a low volume scorer.

I think Lakers would do it as it resolves the positional awkwardness of both LeBron and Rui wanting to play same position, plus Okoro is cheaper.

But Rui has proven to be an extremely effective scorer in the playoffs and Okoro hasn't, so I think it probably ends up biting Lakers a bit.

Mostly ambivalent about it. It balances the roster.

I’d adjust to Hachimura for Okoro & Niang; with Wood+ heading to a third team.

If the Cavs are consolidating and moving off Okoro, it has to duck the tax for them this year.

Lots of us Laker fans like Rui, his a good player and all, but he Is replacable. He seems to be scared to shoot quite a lot and often drives and kicks It out etc even when open. Good solid rebounder etc and actually has helped win a few games, but I think Lakers can do this trade. I'd be ok. And lakers can still make other trades to work, Utah, Bulls, Nets etc.

Scorers are ez to get In the NBA IMO -Lakers need bigs, reb/blocks defense players

I think you underestimate Rui a bit. Lakers are currently trailing him at C last 3 games and he's held his own against GSW and Kings quite well, he only did poorly against Pistons.

He's got the highest plus-minus for Lakers this season and part of that is because of his improved defense and rebounding this season.

He has untapped potential because of his size that he's yet to fully utilize in the NBA, he could really step up his game just by being more physical. Part of using him at C is to make him more physical.

possibly true, he does well In certain matchups/games etc I mean doesn't every role player?

If anything I think he can be replaced by Vuc from Bulls who at least on youtube have tlked about and wanting 2 2srps for Vuc ... I know age gap there but still, be ok with It. But let's keep this on Cavs/LA :)

Well currently Cavs playoff rotation is:

PG: Garland (36) | Mitchell (12)
SG: Mitchell (26) | Merrill (14) | Jerome (8)
SF: Wade (10) | Okoro (16) | Levert (16) | Jerome (6)
PF: Mobley (20) | Niang (18) | Wade (10)
C : Allen (32) | Mobley (16)

They got guards in rotation that should get more minutes and forwards that have too many minutes and Wade is best at SF. After this trade it's a bit better.

I'm surprised Niang only getting 18 minutes a game and Okoro only 16 minutes a game Is there a reason for this, would they get more on Lakers??

I like to go back 5 games https://www.nba.com/player/1629060/rui-hachimura

Rui averaging like 30 min + a game but like you said Lakers are using him as Centers at times because they're thin (Injuries), If Lakers weren't thin would RUi still get 30 min a game? probably around 20-25 at most. I think Cavs could use him, but can Lakers use Niange/Okoro/TT? ...

I say yes. Lakers looking for upgrade and depth, not 3rd star/scorer like everyone thinks and they can still make other trades work, so I'm all for the trade.

Edit: also take note this Is a 3 -2 trade, who are Lakers dropping?

Just minutes distribution. Garland, Mitchell, Mobley, Allen minutes are based on last season playoffs. The remaining minutes were squeezed down proportionally based on RS minutes this season.

Maxwell Lewis would be my guess. They can send him to Cleveland if they want or also switch Wood and Hayes. Either works imo

You're missing Strus. Ty Jerome should play zero minutes at the 3 and Wade should play mostly at the 4. I'm okay with this trade anyway as Wade is always an injury risk and can play the three in certain matchups.

That said, I'm very skeptical that the Cavs will be able to bring back all of LeVert, Merrill and Jerome whose contracts all expire this summer if they make a trade like this. If Levert is likely gone anyway, my preference would be to trade him.

Ultimately I think Niang and one of Jerome or Merrill are going to get squeezed out of the postseason rotation. So I’d rather part with them for someone like DFS, which is a better offense/defense balance for the Cavs than Rui.

If the Lakers want those two to build out their rotation, the Lakers sending Vincent + draft capital to Brooklyn rounds out a reasonable three-way deal.

I tend to believe the reports that the Nets aren't interested in taking back long-term salary. Also, if Vincent and seconds returned DFS, the Lakers would just take DFS.
