Re: Trade Talk (Part 16): Early Season Anxiety Edition
Something around Jerami Grant?
His numbers are down this year for the bottom feeding Blazers, but he can be effective off ball as a high volume 3 point shooter that has been solid on d in the past.
Not gonna shine him up too much; rebounds like a pg and intensity comes and goes and the contract is just this side of heinous.

I don’t think Grant has played defense since 2019.

There is absolutely no way the Wolves would take on Grant's contract.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 16): Early Season Anxiety Edition
Honestly, find a center and PG 2 for 1 for Randle.
Tell Finch to get Miller minutes behind Naz at the 4.
Finch is really being a **** with our young guys. Minott looks great, hardly plays. Miller destroys G league, can't get any minutes at 4 to see where he is at?

Fair enough.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 16): Early Season Anxiety Edition
My biggest current question is whether Randle will opt in or out of his player option for next season. At this point in time I wouldn't want him back at $31M next season. If Connelly thinks there's a good chance Julius is going to pick up the option, will he be more inclined to move him before the trade deadline?

Re: Trade Talk (Part 16): Early Season Anxiety Edition
Not much of a surprise as it was always highly unlikely the Wolves would pay him more than the $1M he had guaranteed.

I think Randle will opt in because I don't believe he will get more in the open market. Also, it seems to me Wolves are still trying to make Randle work and not just to pump up his trade value. We may end up sign him to extension like what we did we Gobert.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 16): Early Season Anxiety Edition
Worst case scenario for me is keeping Randle. He’s exactly the player he has always been, which is just a terrible fit to build around Ant. If we keep Randle beyond this year, Naz is gone and so is NAW. We can’t afford to keep them and Randle. Why on earth would Naz stay to come off the bench behind Randle? Someone will pay him to start and it should be us. We also will need to draft a center and sign another vet PG. Moving Randle this year makes the most sense.
Randle for:
Val and Brogdon?
Lonzo and Smith?
Isaac and Joseph?
Any expiring and a pick?

I think you are missing something. If Randle isn’t traded he will come off the bench. Naz will get 30-33 MPG, Rudy will get 30-33 MPG, and Randle will get most of the rest. I think Naz is the priority and he has probably been told they are starting Randle to build his trade value. If they cannot move him, they will simply promote Naz and if Randle’s ego cannot handle it they will send Randle home.

At $31 mil, I lean the other way.
And at worst, it’s a productive, guaranteed expiring. During the summer, when teams have more financial flexibility, there can be more CBA-legal buyers. Yes, it matters which teams have a full $31 in cap space. But then you add in the teams that can make deals to get to $31 mil. And then there are the additional teams that can get partway there, and make up the rest by sending a player (say, they are $18 under the cap, and trade is an $11 mil player).
We also have one other level of protection. Even if you’re right that many teams don’t think Randall is worth $31, Randall himself may think he’s worth more than $31 mil, and he’s the guy who makes his own self-evaluation on his player option.
If I had to make a guess what happens, I tend to think the most likely option is that Randle plays here this year, and this summer he and the Wolves work together on a sign-and-trade next season where MIN gets a player in the $13 mil range.

The trade was Rob and Joe I for Kuminga
The Wolves are gonna trade their PGOF on the first year of a rookie deal, for Kuminga who cannot space the floor, cannot play C, and who plays the same position as both Randle and Reid. To say nothing of Minott or Miller who both could see time at PF. I get that this was GSW fan reporter, but still that is stupid bad. Also is it wrong that I want to intentionally misspell Kuminga’s name with C like they did on inside the NBA

Re: Trade Talk (Part 16): Early Season Anxiety Edition
I looked into PJ Dozier’s contract, hoping that this could mean that MIN was opening a roster spot for an impending one-for-two (Randle?) deal. Unfortunately, Dozier’s guarantee date to lock in for the full season was January 1, so this was just standard business.
I will note that having an open roster spot might be importantly. CBA rules allow teams to sign free agents on 10-day contracts starting January 5.

You’re just making things up to fit some narrative in your mind.
But even if you’re right, you think Naz is like “that’s cool, I’m not worried about earning the biggest contract by producing in a bigger role this year.” And have you ever worked with other humans? There is no chance those kind of conversations would not end up coming out.
An alternative narrative is that Connelly thinks he made a great move trading Kat, isn’t ready to change course, and Finch really believes he can unlock Randle to facilitate his flow offense. Connelly is also known for bidding against himself to resign players before seeing what the market will determine.
Anyway, thoughts and prayers that they trade Randle.

The trade was Rob and Joe I for Kuminga
Funny, I was just listening to the Hoop Collective discuss Kuminga earlier today.
Apparently he has been very bitter with the way he feels he has bern treated in GSW, and people can see it in his play. He wants a max deal, and GSW doesn’t want to give it to him. They tried starting him for a section of the season, and they lost all the time. But Kuminga’s mad.
It got even worse than that. One of the hosts said GSW brought this on themselves, drafting Wiseman and Kuminga, and pointed out how different the franchise could look if they had drafted Wagner. Must be pretty sad day for Kuminga when you get lumped in with Wiseman!
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
