Porzingis was pretty good. He demanded a trade because we suck but other than that he did make an all star team

That’s really my lone example of it ever working out

Honestly we need to stay away from drafting any players

Gallo? Prigioni? Willy outplayed his draft position.

But these dudes that don't want to come over don't come over. Milos Vujanic, Magic Lampe, Weis. We should have moved off of Jokewhobaitedus immediately. We were never gonna play him.

Also, I think Dadiet will be a player in the future. He's really young but does a lot of things the right way and has real skills.

Knick for life.

Spoiler:
Well, probably only until the deadline but I think he has an NBA future.

Dadiet does have some good skills. He has a nice touch and plays intelligently. He seems to lack the necessary athleticism to excel at this level. He also looks like he moves in slow motion to me.

I know what you mean but he seems to stay in front of guys on defense and find open space on offense. It may not hinder him.

Tbh, a lot of Euros seem to not be hindered by that. Luka and Jokic are two prime examples. I think Dadiet has the skills and mentality to be a good role player at least. Beyond that, I'm not sure, but we need good role players too, especially with our salary situation.

I agree re Dadiet. But, honestly, do you see Thibs giving him rotational minutes with this squad? Shamet’s getting minutes now and we have Warren in Westchester getting ready for the NBA playoffs.

Not at all. I think with Kolek, Dadiet and Hukporti, we’re going to see the Knicks try to replicate what they did with Deuce and IQ.

I also think Deuce might get traded down the road sadly enough.

Neither Barrett nor Hunter can turn a bad team into a good one. Neither's a significant player but I'd take Hunter over Barrett on a good team every time. At least he won't focus on hijacking the offense to put up numbers at the expense of the team and ignore defense entirely.

The primary reason we lost the Miami series was RJ's total lack of defense. The numbers are staggering and bear it out.

I still think that’s underrating Barrett.

Defensive rating is a terrible stat anyway, but they’re both at 117. (OG 112 though, with Randle at 110, Towns at 108… shows you how misleading stats can be)

DFG%, however: Hunter 51%, RJ 46% …

Granted, Hunter is the better shooter, but Barrett is the better player.

I didn't use defensive rating.

DFG% isn't indicative of defense as it only covers a minuscule proportion of defensive possessions played. Defenders contest a shot at the end of only 5-10% of the defensive possessions they play. DFG% doesn't account for team defense (i.e. help defense, transition defense, rotations etc.) which accounts for a much larger portion of individual defensive performance.

RJ is one of the worst wing defenders in the entire NBA. Hunter is not.

No, but I had brought up defensive rating in a related post. Either way, this is interesting to an extent, but after all you’re betting on a horse here that doesn’t have any record of being any good either. They’re both incomplete, lackadaisical players, very similar in what they’re usually criticized for, however, people have been a lot more frustrated with Hunter’s development.

Personally, I’ve been intrigued by him ever since he entered the league, but after all, he cannot even make it into their mediocre starting lineup. He is the better shooter out of the two, but he wouldn’t win Toronto any games either, especially not defensively or with intangibles. Overall, RJ already is the much more polished and versatile player.

Yea…when I say down the road, I mean in a few years. He’s gonna get paid when he gets to FA, and deservedly so

You tell me if this is winning basketball.

Well Barrett has at least been far better than Hunter across the box score throughout their careers as Hunter has received criticism particularly for his lack of contributions other than scoring some. He’s been one-dimensional despite the terrific physical tools. You cannot say that about Barrett who has elevated his game even more and is averaging 23.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 6.1 apg.

Now tbf Hunter has obviously been pretty good off the bench, but your claim that he has outplayed Barrett in the playoffs (where it was actually Trae Young and our very own Julius Randle who beat the Knicks) is nonsense (edit:or rather irrelevant. Hunter couldn’t win with that Toronto squad either). Hunter has never outplayed anyone up until this season and RJ is not only more talented but also easily the more complete player as well as building block.

I don’t even think you are serious and I get what you’re trying to stir up, but come on man…

Barrett has a negative impact on winning overall, primarily because he doesn't defend.

Neither Barrett nor Hunter can turn a bad team into a good one. Neither's a significant player but I'd take Hunter over Barrett on a good team every time. At least he won't focus on hijacking the offense to put up numbers at the expense of the team and ignore defense entirely.

Yep. RJ is a losing player and he isn’t good enough to justify his extreme usage. Maybe it’ll work in overseas though.

Randle with back to back great games against really good teams. Once a winning player always a winning player. Us ball knowers was right again!

I agree Hunter hasn't had the career we could've expected of him. By NBA standards, he's pretty mediocre himself, and to me he comes across as a bit "soft". I agree he wouldn't make any difference in Toronto, and I do think RJ's the more talented player, though not necessarily more impactful.

We're blessed to have Hart, Mikal and OG over wings like RJ and Hunter. They're on a different level.

RJ helped us get OG
Randle helped us get KAT

Great moves, and they both helped us get where we are at.

Amazing job Thibs did making them look good enough to be the main pieces of trades in getting actually good players.

IQ was the centerpiece of the OG trade. We can speculate about RJ's value in the trade but the Knicks likely could've struck a deal without him - but not without Quick.

And Randle helped us a lot more than RJ. It's pretty much indisputable that Randle helped us build this foundation. It's at best questionable that RJ ever did after his sophomore season.

Yea, Toronto didn't really want the hometown son who's putting up 22ppg, 6rb and 5ast for them because someone on the internet who hates his game says so....that makes sense.
