Raps deal Brown & Boucher

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Sat Dec 28, 2024 1:27 pm

The Raptors need to look at cashing out on Boucher and Brown as neither guy seems to be part of future and they both will garner the mid level exemption at best in free agency as their Bird Rights are meaning less

Here are 2 deals to get some intangible assets

To Los Angeles Clippers
-Chris Boucher (1 year, $10.8 million)

To Toronto
-PJ Tucker (1 year, $11.1 million) *buyout waive*
-2030 2nd round pick (Utah has right to swap)

———————————————————————————-

To Sacramento
-Bruce Brown (1 year, $23 million)

To Toronto
-Kevin Huerter (2 years, $35 million)
-Jordan McLaughlin (1 year, $2 million) *waive*
-2028 2nd round pick

Why?
-Raps save some $ short term while getting 2 2nds. They could try to flip Huerter in off-season for another 2nd

LAC dont own a 2026 2nd round pick, it belongs to HOU or MEM.

No thanks to taking on huerter's money next year for 1 second only. Even Weaver didnt sell space for that cheap

I think LAC should either be looking to move Tucker and another salary for a decent upgrade or look to trim the money to get under the tax. If they had a second, it’s fine value. Even giving up that 2030 2nd, why not? Just not what I think they should do.

And Sac doesn’t have that much room under the tax… Brown isn’t worth going over the tax, and Imo isn’t worth losing Huerter and going over the tax.

Updated pick from LAC to reflect 2030 instead of 2026. Spotrac trade machine was wrong

Yeah, LAC is about $2M over the tax, so any move they make is likely to duck under the tax.

Just add Kobe Brown as an outgoing from LAC to TOR, and the math works. Brown hasn’t shown much at 26 yo, but Toronto can talk themselves into taking him.

Tucker should be used for an upgrade. LAC has held on with no Kawhi and with any chance of getting him back for a playoff run means you should really try and get into the tournament.

But if you aren't doing that, yeah duck tax. Paying to swap him for Boucher accomplishes nothing.

And the Brown/Huerter trade feels wrong for both sides. Find a team who somehow has worse expirings and maybe you can still get a 2nd out of Brown? But maybe you just buy him out and gain some value out of the goodwill of that.

Yeah, I didn’t realize LAC was that close.

I think I’d still look to upgrade personally. If you think Leonard is coming back for the playoffs, joining a team that has stayed around 500.. you have to make a bigger upgrade than Boucher...

But if they’re mostly content, I think it’s worth a second to get a warm body for the bench.
