Demar to LAL, what’s the cost?

Post#1 » by jayjaysee » Sat Dec 28, 2024 2:26 pm

So was playing with Cam Johnson here, but I’m going away from Brooklyn today, maybe someone else makes a Brooklyn one. Not the most realistic deal here.. and not sure on value obviously?

LAL: Vincent, Vandy, JHS, Wood, “LAL 2026 and 2028 swap”
LAL: Demar, Reath, Rupert

LAL saves enough salary to stay under the apron, while keeping Rui and DLO. Demar is not the best fit, but he’ll keep the offense going in minutes LBJ doesn’t play and LAL shouldn’t care about his age. Do not know what value to add so I put it like that, feels like LAL owes a first since it’s Vandy/Vincent but did not think it was worth it?

Portland: Grant, Reath, Rupert
Portland: Vincent, Vandy, JHS, 2027 top 10 protected first

Portland gets a future protected first for Grant by taking on less but negative salary. Maybe Vandy works his way to neutral value by next trade deadline? Possible. He would be good fit and plays the right way to have around the kids though..

Sacramento: Demar, Lyles, 2027 top 10 protected first (3x)
Sacramento: Grant, Wood “LAL 2026 and 2028 swap”

Sacramento tries a different forward, more expensive but a better fit. They give up a similarly protected first as the one they currently owe, but get back a couple swaps that could be worth more than the first they give up if Sac gets their team back on track.. if they don’t, the pick is protected well enough through the rebuild..

The Swaps would be pretty wordy. If Sac first doesn’t convey to Atl this year, then Sac only gets to opt for the 2026 swap if they keep their 2026 first, so pretty unlikely.

And the 2028 swap would be pretty similar but more complicated since there could be a roll over impact from the 2025 first.. and then the chance that Sac does not convey the 2027 first, so they owe Portland their top 10 protected 2028 first, meaning they only get a swap from LAL if they’re both in the top 10 in 2028? But then I still feel like LAL should be able to put like top 2 protection on the swaps since they’re giving them up for Demar…

Maybe this would have been better off in one of the Sac threads..

I don't see a way Vando works his way back to neutral value by next trade deadline. He was already awful on offense and relied on his defensive ability to give him spot value. Offseason surgeries on both feet combined with knee issues does not bode well.

Yeah, most likely not. But if he does come back healthy next season, it doesn’t seem impossible. And that’s all I said. Maybe I should have said “Probably not” instead of possible. Some had him at negative before the offseason due to his offense, so you’re probably right on that.

Portland is getting paid to swap talented bad money for less talented bad money, so wouldn’t put too much focus on if he can become a neutral salary..

I would not take this deal for POR.

2 bad contracts, a bust a pick that might not convey?

I would look for a better deal.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Been giving this some thought as well - basically this...

LAL
Russell & Hachimura
For
DeRozan & Fontechhio

Would also love to give Sasser from DET a shot in LA, not sure how he's valued there

DET?
Hardaway & Fontechhio
For
Hachimura & Huerter

Upgrade their lineup with 2 guys who make a bit more money, but line up well on their cap sheet
In 2 years Harris, Hachimura & Huerter will expire, while Ivey & Duren will be up for their new deals

SAC
DeRozan & Huerter
For
Russell & Hardaway

Get ok fits and expirings that allow them to make another big splash next offseason

No idea, but I would think Sac is better off taking Rui and paying a bit of value to turn DLO into a better fit/ cheaper player while keeping Huerter.

I am not high on Rui, but OP tried to keep him in LAL. If he’s involved, you just keep him and slide him in between Sabonis and Murray right?

They can’t really create meaningful cap space without blowing the core up. And the core is good enough to give more time IMO.
