Nets Preferred Lakers' Three 2nd Rounders Over Top-17 Protected 2025 Pick From Grizzlies

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Dec 30, 2024 2:16 am

The Memphis Grizzlies tried to acquire Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets, but they were only offering a top-17 protected first rounder in the 2025 draft. The Nets instead traded Finney-Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package of three second rounders.

Brooklyn also would have had to trade a second round pick or two to the Grizzlies and take on salary.

The Nets had long held out for at least one first round pick for Finney-Smith and Dennis Schroder, but ultimately moved both players for a combined six second round picks. The Nets now own 16 second round picks over the next seven years.

3 second rounders while taking on no money only expiring sounds better than top 17 protected and taking on salary for sure.. Memphis tried to fleece them..

In a non-fantasy basketball world aka the real world where owners actually care about long-term financial impacts and you can still find players like Jokic, Ginobili, Jalen Brunson, Draymond Green in the 2nd round.

All those players you know went to franchises that waited and helped develop, the Nets haven't been that in a long time.
