This what we deserve. We should have been up at least 10 at that point so it didn't matter.....

4TH Q: SPURS 110 WOLVES 112

It's a good thing I had to tend to something right after the game.

Just dumb errors and choices, accrued, define a game. And in losing three of the last four, all winnable, in a collection of mind numbing ways, to reiterate gump, we are getting the results we set ourselves up for, set ourselves up by getting in our own way. It's like having two opponents out there.

Poor rotations and weird lineups once again. It's hard to cheer when we are not set up for optimal success. Bassey and Collins got some minutes, and though Bassey did more in his, Collins played more, even as they had token minutes with 7 for Collins and a mere 5 for Bassey. Collins did get put in for rebounding purposes in a possession late so that was a good sub. But he had 3 fouls in 7 minutes and like ran up and down the court a lot.

Castle had 4 TOs on some bad passes. Ok. But one of our best defenders playing only 8 minutes is inexcusable. This with the Tre and CP3 Hobbit back court experiment ongoing, this with their hot 3s shooter making 5-10, this this five Spurs in the paint too often, once again. Lots to fix repeating once again.

We also had a lineup where three players had combined for 0 points around Wemby and I think Barnes. Wemby happened to have scored, a 3 I think, but these sorts of situations are frustrating because they are so easily fixable. Very dogged defender Blake can't get on the court either for some reason. Hot 3s shooter Mamu is all but forgotten. Just poor decisions in the who plays with whom and for how long. Again.

I didn't like some of CP3's early clock shot choices, especially with how he's struggled to score of late. Kudos for the 14 assists. And the 4 steals. He's been huge for us. I didn't like Wemby's four consecutive 3s attempts late in the game when we were down 2. Not great shot selection, not great timing, and the whole give it to Wemby rather than bloody run a play is getting lazy and we're getting caught by our bad habits.

Sochan with some bad O decisions and still wanting to play hero late rather than passing to Dev was costly. I wouldn't say it lost the game as that was a team effort from Mitch to our best players to our bench support on down.

We did well in transition, we did well to get to the FT line but in a close game 23-28 stands out.

We got decimated PITP - again - 60-40, we got decimated - again - 56-41in rebounds including 18-8 on O boards, and we lost - again - second chance points 20-15.

Hats off to Barnes and Devin for strong supporting games, and while the latter took a bit of time to get going, the former was steady throughout.

Hats off to Wemby for a strong game, got to FT line well, but 4-12 from 3 needs some examining in terms of time and score and good to great shot set up and selection.

The starters were too heavily relied upon with their playing 34-37 minutes, while Keldon led the bench with 13 points on 5-11 (0-5 from 3, 3-6FTs) in 17 minutes.

Of the other five bench Spurs who played, two combined for 6 points.

Tre played 13 minutes, 1-2; Julian 11 minutes, 0-4; Castle 8 minutes, an egregious 0-1; Collins 7 minutes, 0-1, Bassey 5 minutes, 1-1. Castle did have 4TOs as I said but I'd rather he be out there for D and play through his mistakes, especially when two starters could not hit a barn with a pig. He has shown excellent chemistry with Wemby and his being relegated to an afterthought when he has weapons we could use is a misuse of them.

Sochan and Wemby can only do so much. They need help behind them and small ball with players who are having off nights scoring on the court together is a recipe for what we got.

Also, playing for 48 minutes continues to be a challenge. 12 points in a Q a game after 11 in a Q is a huge let down and maybe a yellow turning to red flag. Yes there are ebbs and flows to a game, runs and counter runs, but this kind of output is unbecoming a team that calls itself professionals and professes to be aiming for the playoffs.

On the one hand, we can play much better, smarter, more consistent ball. On the other, we are reverting to some bad habits and doubling down on lineups and rotations that are counterproductive. And we're getting the results we deserve. Better play and maximizing our strengths is right there for use to use.
