This is the oldest man thing I've said in at least a day but Edwards has little kid Wolves fans idolizing him and I wouldn't want my 6 year old watching that and then dropping F bombs for the rest of his childhood.

Don't care.

We have a future President that literally insults, trashes and bullies people like a flaming idiot on a daily basis but people are concerned over some minor swearing on live TV.

Lol.

Careful which dumb dumb you try to make "the face of the league."

It's not really that hard to just not do it.

Meh.

In my household swearing is just a part of everyday talk. We do however teach to be kind, considerate, empathetic and respectful.

We live in an age where our future President, the most powerful man in the world and a figurehead of the country, is a literal toddler who demeans, insults, bullies and attacks people constantly. I teach my kids to be the opposite of a man like that.

There's levels of vulgarity and the f-bomb is never acceptable on TV during an interview. Lacing conversation with expletives shows a lack of vocabulary and responsibility given the audience; punctuating a point with one contextually is different. Edwards just running off at the mouth with profanity only shows his immaturity, a lack of common sense, emotion getting the better of him, or a mix of all.

These are professionals and while still people like the rest of us, they're seen in a different light and should be held to different standards somewhat. I get the raw emotion on the court leading to an occasional outburst, but kids can hear that and that's unnecessary behavior.

I say this as a somewhat professional potty mouth and military veteran where profanity is part of the daily environment.

I personally cuss like a sailor and don't actually have a 6 year old, but the idea of small children emulating this Anthony Edwards interview strikes me as less than ideal and a further degradation of societal issues you're talking about. I imagine such things are happening somewhere, but I don't think I've come across little kids dropping frequent F bombs and adults being cool with it. Pretty cringe imo.

Also (mod voice): please don't derail the thread with politics.

I can respect that but I also don’t want my kids swearing and want them to learn a broad vocabulary so we watch what we say around the kids. I had to unlearn a lot of bad habits (in regards to speaking) when I got into the corporate world due to my upbringing. I don’t want my kids having to learn that later in life.

To the topic, the league wants to be a family product and the swearing isn’t helping grab as large of an audience as possible.

I can empathize with you there. It's funny actually seeing that our in-house HR contact (a woman in her upper 60's), will let some slip on occasion but did put forth an inter-office memo about how some of the language in the office was becoming a bit more "colorful" than what should be allowed and accepted seeing we do have client facing spaces. And while I joked with her about feeling somewhat attacked, she said it wasn't just me and she was also guilty of being a bit cavalier with her words.

I bartend. I'm Irish heritage. I curse like, well, an Irish bartender when I want to. I can also swap seamlessly into a fully professional language at any moment. Then again, my demeanor is a very important part of my job.

Ant probably speaks far differently in front of his grandma at church. Surely he can rein it in. Then again, and this is no slight to his basketball acumen or charm, he just seems like kind of a dope.

I'm not offended by swearing in the slightest, but Ant was trying WAY too hard there lol. It came off as completely inauthentic.

Well, he got his money's worth I guess. Anyway, I think there is a big difference between someone slipping up and accidentally cursing and then immediately correcting themselves vs that string. People accept the occasional slip up, but the league wants to keep a family friendly image.

I don't see it often, I feel it happens rarely and if it slips, it can happen, I wont think of a person worse for a slip up, Was it Jay Triano who once said ''WTF you gonna do'' on live tv, and it became a meme among Raptors fans for years. If person constantly and repeatedly swears during interviews, well, he wouldn't get interviewed a lot, but then I would have different opinion.

My opinion, if asked, is that it's unprofessional and immature. I don't care enough to be bothered though.

I have a 10 year old and an 8 year old. Honestly, I don't really care about players swearing live on TV. Context is important in determining if swearing can hurt your kids. Are you angry and swearing at them? That is harmful. Are they listening to a conversation that has swearing in it? That isn't harmful at all. Context matters.

There better be a good reason to do so, like a coach purposely getting a tech to make a point at the refs. Even when the Raptor coach complained about the officiating against the Lakers last year, he didn't use any expletive.

Couldn't care less. Even back in my day you'd be hearing worse in the elementary schools, all the hand wringing over think of the brats is meaningless. Wouldn't want the kids growing up into sanctimonious, moralistic crusaders anyway.

Not in any classrooms I've taught at, and I'm pretty sure not in any my friends teach in.

Maybe this is my suburbia bias, but I'm pretty sure elementary school kids don't just cuss away in class while the teacher ignores it.

As a former educator in the elementary space, no, that is not going to be accepted by any means. Even on the playground, that kind of stuff is monitored and the punishment swift if it's caught. High school is another animal but even there, I can't see it being allowed or tolerated as it's disruptive.
