How Would You Fix The Rotation?

Post#1 » by jaymo123 » Tue Dec 24, 2024 5:48 am

Post how you would fix the rotation for the dubs. Who starts, who finishes, minutes played, etc. I'm tired of seeing goofy rotations put together and the best players not being on the court in the last 5 minutes of games. Wiggins, Curry, and Green should never be out the game with 5 minutes left unless they are in foul trouble. What would be your rotation?

lol I've done mine too often, but basically start with Curry/Hield/Wiggins/Dray/Looney

Spam the PnR with Schroder & JK, TJD or GP2. Never all 3 of them on at a time. SloMo should almost always be paired with them (unless its JK/TJD). Stagger some Hield in there while giving Podz some minutes with the starters, as long as it isnt crunch time. Moody, Lindy and GP2 duke it out for SF minutes

Close the game with the 4 starters minus Looney, and let the game dictate who the 5th guy is. It doesnt have to be the best scorer, it should be the one playing the best floor game - the smartest floor game. Because whoever they are, they are NOT the main character. They are support

It's not as hard as Kerr makes it

I’m starting curry hield Wiggins dray looney.

I’m closing with curry/hield/wiggins/dray/pick a player. The lineups between those don’t really matter. The only lineup that really matters is the closing lineup. And until hield is closing with the other 3 it really doesn’t matter what we do.
Most 4th Quarter Points in Final since 1991
1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5 (61.1% TS)
2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3 (68.0% TS)

The rotation isn't the problem, it's the roster.

We lack another strong scorer, and it has a domino effect. Steph is blanketed all game, and rarely can get in rhythm. Some blame Steph, who I agree does look older, or Steve but I think Steph and the whole offense would look look a lot better with a real 2nd option (or 1B type) who could actually demand some attention.

Steve has tried a lot of different stuff because it's obvious the roster doesn't cut it.

I'd probably add that Draymond might not be the lineup lock he was in the past. Since the closing unit is only likely to have one big, if Dray's having one of his bad nights, Looney might be the play.. Curry's # of shots and # of more open looks both move up a lot with Looney on court. He's the only one throwing a real screen - TJD throws his hands out and sets Wiseman level screens, and while Dray sets good screens, Curry and Dray turn the ball over a ton when running their 2 man game. To be fair to them, it has a lot to do with spacing and guys sagging off perimeter players... I mean, no need to stay attached at the hip to Lindy Waters, GP2, Moody, or Podz, right? But since Kerr isnt playing Hield with Curry, this aspect of their game needs to be pulled back a lot

COMMIT to Kuminga and TJD as your starters for the rest of the year (baring a trade).
Pick a lineup and stick with it for ten games (Imagine that!)
Curry, Schroeder, Wiggins, Kuminga, TJD.
or
Curry, Wiggins, Kumgina, Draymond, TJD
But all this tinkering with the line up by Kerr has got to stop. Remember when the starting lineup was the same for at least a half season. If not, then something big had to happen?

Probably true. But constantly juggling the lineups just confuses the situation. We STILL don't know what Kuminga can do for ten games in a row as a starter. Same with TJD. Kuminga has a very good game, followed by an okay game, and he's suddenly off the bench. Then he starts again three games later and has a very good game. He literally closed and won a game for the Warriors 4 games ago and two games later he was coming off the bench. WTF??? :banghead:

Start Buddy Hield, waive Dennis Schroeder. Condense your rotation to 10 players.

Wiggins-32
Green-32
Jackson-Davis-20
Hield-28
Curry-32

Kuminga-28
Podz- 24
Looney-16
Payton- 16
Moody/Anderson- 12

You can't keep everyone happy and if you want to compete, not everyone will have an opportunity. Waters/Moody/Anderson probably all deserve a lower rotation slot, but you have to maximize your team's EV and you can really only keep 10 players sharp.

Podz recent resurgence is because he isn't being asked to run the 2nd unit every time Steph is out.. Schroder's been good on defense immediately and is getting to the rim well. The whole point of pounding the table to get him here on 12/15 is because the motion offense is based on knowing what your teammates will do, and they are dropping him into the middle of it

Based on JK having more success outside it, Moody and Waters being better stand-still shooters, and limited players like GP2/SloMo/TJD.. they should cater to a 2 man PnR or triangle with the reserves. Guys like Hield, Wiggins and Dray need the motion offense, so let them do that

And TJD getting some dunks lately is probably the worst thing that could have happened... going to make the same mistakes as last year

I think Schroeder can work if he's always playing with a great shooter(s) and a PnR target and sets designed around it. The minute allocation also needs to be more consistent across the lineup.

I'd run:

Curry, Podz, Wiggins, Kuminga, Draymond
Schroeder, Hield, Moody, Anderson, TJD
Subs: Payton, Looney, Waters

I think that gives balanced firepower between starters and bench players. Kuminga and Hield would get a good chunk of minutes.

There's going to be funky lineups no matter what since there's no true Center, no true stretch 4, and only 1 real SG that shoots high volume (Hield). Kuminga has to become a dynamic forward that gets buckets both on and off ball with either the starters or bench.

Otherwise the rotation becomes... all the good players start and it's Schroeder and randoms off the bench. Only other way I see things working is a trade but would probably make everything worse.

Debunked!

So don't hold out hope, at least for the lifetime of the universe.

I think the current "monkeys type Shakespeare" hypothesis only applies to the multiverse lol.

We’ve seen enough Schroeder in the starting lineup with curry to know it won’t work. We already tried dlo / curry backcourt in the past and two undersized guards starting is not going to win us games.

It’s funny how far past we are from Monta and Steph that you didn’t even think to mention the OG small backcourt lol.
