Kessler to LA #2

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Wed Jan 1, 2025 12:17 am

I thought I could sweeten the pot a bit for the Lakers by giving them a replacement for Russel and letting them dump Vando.

Don’t think lakers really value dumping vandy. Contract around 12 million a year. Probably worth closer to 7,8 a year. Can be the spot wing rebounding defender lakers need with a broken offensive game.

Think the counter would be Colin, svi , Kessler for vandy, Gabe for the unprotected pick and an unprotected swap.

My thoughts is vandy and Gabe are overpaid but play 6 to 8 million dollar roles for teams.

The value is probably fair. And Sexton/Vincent for a swap feels like a fair add on if the teams agree to the first part.

Just feels like LAL isn’t close enough to be trading unprotected firsts for anything other than a star. And they can’t afford a star. Would aim lower and cheaper.

Yes please. I said Kessler/Sexton, but JC Is ok too.

I'm not sure Lakers are willing to trade Vando just yet though, but this I would be ok. Vando Is currently making practice with no physical contact and will take some time to come back, If Lakers ok with this, then I'm ok with trading Vando, just not sure they're just yet - they and us fans like him a lot.

Feel free to swap out Vandy for other salary. O thought with DFS in town that moving vandy would be a plus.

Thinking giving LeBron a bench and shooters can do wonders. Lakers haven’t been no where near average in the non LeBron minutes since he came.

In the postseason, LeBron can’t even sit for a minute without everything falling apart.

Rui salary works perfect. I thought you'd value him more. If you'd rather send him than the 3 guys I sent that is no problem on this end.

There's a mixed bag with Rui, I like him but think he can be replaced.

I feel like I am missing something here. The Jazz trade Kessler and Sexton for 1st and Vando? (I know some because think Vando is valuable as a defensive big but his lack of offense and having multiple foot surgeries is worrisome for a big man).

Kind of where I’m at. But think I replace him and send the unprotected pick.

He the size of a large shooting guard. Not sure he has big man injury concerns.

He is a big offensively because he lack perimeter skills. Defensively he is definitely a rebounding perimeter player.

Does Vando not have foot and knee injuries? And he’s got 3 years at 10+ M per left? Lakers ought to be thrilled to move on IMO.

I feel like the OP offer is good value for both sides here.

I would understand us doing the original trade w/Clarkson but I don't love it and think we should be getting another asset. If Sexton is subbed in it just is not enough.

Curious - what would be the desire for Utah to include others versus the simple JHS/pick(s) for Kessler swap?

No dead money for Utah but gets the picks and LA pays the price in picks but keeps the roster depth/talent in order to win (if healthy) which helps them justify an “all in” move like this.

Vando is really the Lakers only apex perimeter defender.

DFS is versatile, but he's not a "Hey, let's shut-down Curry or Doncic (as much as you can shutdown Curry or Doncic)" kinda player that Vando is

I think there's still time for the Lakers to evaluate Vando (he's finally back doing basketball drills) before we call it a season for him.

Yeah this is probably as simple as swapping out Vando for Vincent. Bit more bearable to take Vincent’s contract
