Paolo coming back to DET to the same arena he hit gamewinner last year would be poetry to start the new year.

He is listed as out for tonight’s game.

Still think he is a week or so away from Returning.

“Paolo was able to go through some light contact through practice, but that’s about it,” head coach Jamahl Mosley said. Banchero recently stated that he’ll have to go through full contact work and participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages before being cleared to return.

Jeff mentioned last night how Paolo was doing 1-on-1 stuff with Mosley. And we know how physical Jamahl likes to be.

I still think we’re looking at that January 9-12 three-game homestand for a return.

If he isn't back Thursday then I am clueless. He said he was fully healed what like 2-3 weeks ago? He is a smart kid he wouldn't say that without the docs telling him that. I'm sorry but does a 22 year old elite athlete need a month of conditioning?

Makes too much sense Thursday...start of a home stand vs tough teams. Magic are just frustratingly over the top conservative with their injury management. I get being careful but damn son. If he doesn't play this home stand we are nearing a month of conditioning.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

He's our young franchise player that couldn't do anything basketball related for over a month because of his particular injury and just because it feels "good" doesn't mean you just throw him back out there haphazardly after barely shooting, working out, training, etc. Not to mention, the team has been holding steady without him.

He'll be back in the next few games.

That is also type of injury that feels fine even when you aren't healed, as long as you don't do too much, so it tricks you into thinking you are ready.

We also have zero reasons to rush him back, we aren't falling from 4th nor climbing to 3rd ( nor there is much difference between those two spots anyway).

Keep an eye on if Paolo does 5-on-5 on Wednesday.

I was kind of hoping they didn't practice Wednesday. We play 3 out of 4 nights after Wednesday.

I know its extra frustrating bc our best players are all out and we could use them back asap but oblique tears arent the type of injury to risk coming back early from. Paolo is the cornerstone for this franchise for the next decade. If I was the FO, I would also not play him back until 100% certainty he is healed.

I also had him coming back this Thursday for the homestead. WE will see.

I’m thinking a slow ramp up, hoping he plays Thursday but doesn’t start. Come Friday see how he feels from that and do the same thing for Friday’s game he plays, but does not start. Come Sunday the gloves are off P5 is back into the starting 5. I’d seriously be upset, though, if he does not play Thursday after this tease.

I don't see the rush. The team has done an amazing job (Coach of the Year worthy) keeping us toward the top of the East. What's the point in taking the slightest chance with him now? Easy does it.

Banchero went through a full practice Wednesday, Dan Savage reports.

:)

Here's a stat that boggles the mind: Orlando is 22-16 without Banchero in the lineup. It does require context given the winning streak F-Wagner led.

As interesting: the Magic is 6-7 without both. That's amazing. More so: 2 of those wins were also without Suggs!

If Banchero can lead the Magic to even a 50% record over the last 44 games, that is a playoff record. Strength of schedule on "50%" actually leads to a 23 win anyhow.

Not to get maths-wonky: but, if the Magic is a "55%" team, coupled to the 0.476 strength of schedule, Banchero only needs to lead the team to a pedestrian 25 wins to hit that target. If Banchero is actually an All-NBA-level player, that's got to be worth another 2 wins. Right?

So: 27 wins in the last 44 games is a final 49-33 record. That is the line I will look closely at upon his return.

If Paolo says he’s good to go you play him. There’s no rush if he feels right. This is his team and he knows what him coming back means to everyone.
