JI has been struggling lately. His minutes are going down also.

I am glad Paolo is coming back soon. This Magic squad needs some fire power

Once Paolo comes back, he should sit for a couple weeks and lock in on losing the weight he gained in the offseason and come back close to the all star break

He's not helping at all, his movement has been poor, shooting been off probably because of the added muscle

He gained the weight with good intentions, but clearly it hasnt worked out and made him lose what makes him special to begin with. He isnt a center and we shouldnt make him one

I was kinda stunned he put on a lot of weight before the season. He was legitimately one of the best defenders I'd ever seen in my life last year. You can't really tell from appearance in his uniform but he was saying he put on a lot of weight. It's pretty apparent at this point it's hurt him. He is getting blown by consistently and he would alter like 6-8 shots a game last year...he is missing shot blocks he would make all the time last year.

I just don't know why he decided or the team advised him to put on all the weight...It's making him lose what made him special...his versatility to guard all 5 positions. So what he can't guard Jokic...who the hell can? He did fine vs Embiid last year. It's just a shame...he was truly special defensively and the weight has hurt him. I think the fact he isn't his usual self on defense has stung his offense too. He was never an all world offensive player but I think it's shaken his confidence there too.

I don't know what will happen the rest of this season...but he should really consider slimming back down for next year. Problem is once you start putting on weight in your late 20s it gets harder to take it off.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

The Isaac saga has ranked just slightly above the Grant Hill nightmare. At least Grant was at one point great, so the hope was somewhat justified.

Most problematic was idea that he can play C with virtually zero C like skills on both ends.

I would take Bamba over WCJ and JI in a heart beat right now. Their contracts and decline in play is gonna kill us going forward. They are both damn near unplayable. I cant watch WCJ any longer man.

"If this guy could just get healthy and give you 25 mins a night"

"If this guy could put on some muscle he'd be guarding 1-5 at an elite level"

"If Mosely would just slide JI over to the center slot we'd be unstoppable"

"This is one of the best value contracts in the league, where the FO has total control over the player".

Seems like the myths are beginning to dry up for this guy. Unreliable, overpaid, underperformed, one-way only.

FO will probably double down tho. That's their modus operandi.

They gave him 5( five!) years contract.

Career 8 ppg, 44% FG, 33% for 3, 54% TS defensive role player in 8th year. Who missed 2 full seasons, hardly played in 3 other seasons. Makes only sense to give him maximum years exstension

Him and WCJ are going to get more than 30m combined in the next 5 seasons. I doubt they will manage to combine for more than 2000 minutes per season together.

Weltman is watching Isaac's & WCJ's values plummet - kind of like that Carvana commercial (I think it was) in reverse...not yet, not yet, waiting to sell at bottom (again).

16.6 MINUTES PER GAME!! That’s it, that’s all he’s averaging in what should be considered a healthier stronger season than last year. He’s basically playing 1 more minute per game this season. I’ve heard it all when it comes to JI and how great he is and how much he means to this team and maybe some of that’s true but it’s also true he looks done. Thirty pounds, fifty pounds whatever the amount of weight gained was is crazy to have done that in 3-4 months off the offseason.

It is/was piss poor asset management but we shouldn’t be surprised. This is ownership and front office MO, the Orlando Magic is an ATM to the DeVos Family. Alex Martins is looking over an “ amusement attraction “ or a “theme park” just to make sure the product is good enough to attract visitors. Hell they don’t even need to be residents of Orlando or Florida for that fact. No because Orlando is the TOURIST DESTINATION of the world. It’s a zoo, give them an attraction to see and people will come. It’s not about CHAMPIONSHIPS, it’s about selling some tickets so that the ATM doesn’t run out of cash!! Kinda off topic a little but this is the way I see it.

We knew Isaac would average less than 20 mpg when we signed him.

I always felt that Isaac is player that plays too hard in regular season and that's why his defense looks that good in regular season.
After two failed playoff series i think that point proved itself. He isn't THAT impactful, he just goes 100% in games were 95% of nba players go 75% ( regular season). You can even tell by facial expression of some players after matching him up. They have "you for real dude, it's 46th game of a season. Chill" - facial expression.

Once others match his effort, his lack of skill is noticable. And fact he is sooo one dimensional exposes him.

He shot 27% FG on 6 ppg vs Raptors in playoffs and was complete no factor defending Kawhi and Siakam.
Last year vs Allen he looked like rookie, his impact on defense improved only after Allen got hurt, but in same time his offense went to toilet so he scored 2 ( two) points in last two games . Combined.

This season has been NEXT MAN UP mentality with all the injuries but even before that I did have expectations JI would be 6th man for us a play an important roll. That’s not the case at all and his lack of playing extended minutes is worrisome.

He's still young at 27 while having taken 3 years off due to injury but it does look like his best years might be behind him. I really thought we were gonna see a defensive player of the year from him this year but instead he has regressed a good bit.

The problem from a trade perspective is our ownership and front office value JI way more than any other team.

I don’t think he’s more than 10 pounds heavier than he was last season currently. But his timing is horrendous. I don’t know if that’s focus or the latest injuries have inexplicably made it harder for him to return to normal defensively.

He is and never can be a center. But he’s been awful defensively by his standards.

OK...
1) My understanding is that Isaac's defensive metrics are not as awful as the picture some are painting. He's slipped, but still impactful
2) His new contract is BUILT FOR 15-20 mpg, hopefully more in playoffs...if that wasn't the expectation, do you really think he settles on a multi-year deal for only $15m per (and Team-friendly 'escapes')? No way does his pastor advisor agree to that kind of cut in his tithes
3) I'm concerned about his offense and the story about the weight thing...but, WCJ and Cole are bigger problems
