It’s also situational. They already have picks at18 25 and 27. I doubt that Memphis pick has a lot of appeal for them.

He's getting roasted for picking up BB's $23M option, when all that is likely to get us back is a second round pick and some matching expiring salary.

once they extended Olynyk they were in no mans land cap room wise
- have $16ish mil cap space and $8mil room mle + (renounce the 10 mil tpe from pascal trade)
- have brown and full mle $13 mil and keep TPE

plus operating as over the cap they were able to the Kings trade (used the pascal TPE to do that trade)

there has been no opportunity cost lost by picking up the option even if he walks away as a free agent

1 route they took
Brown + Mitchell + Shead + portland pick + $13 MLE (can be used in trade) + $5 mil left in pascal TPE

2 decline brown and still do the kings trade
Shead + Michell + portland pick + $16ish cap space

3 decline brown no kings trade
$16 mil cap space and room mle $8mil

Numerous reports have come out that a FRP was never offered for Bruce Brown. I think people are foolish to think a trade like that was on the table when the Knicks pivoted and got Bojan.
