Ill offer this idea for
-Charlotte adds a veteran SG for better balance between 1-3 positions
-Detroit adds a starting calibre wing with their cap space and excess 2nds
-New Orleans saves money/gets under tax apron now and for off-season as they look to re-tool
***JANUARY 14th***
To Charlotte (Trade Bridges)
-CJ McCollum (2 years, $63.3 million)
To Detroit (Trade Hardaway, 2nds)
-Miles Bridges (3 years, $75 million)
To New Orleans (Trade McCollum)
-Tim Hardaway Jr. (1 year, $16.1 million)
-2025 Toronto 2nd round pick
-2026 Golden State 2nd round pick
Why?
-Charlotte adds McCollum as they have better balance between the 1-3 spots and McCollum.
Ball/Mann/Smith
McCollum/Curry/Jeffries
Green/Martin
Miller/Salaun/Williams
Williams/Richards/Gibson
-Detroit adds a starting wing in Bridges to upgrade their starting 5 as Bridges will expire when Holland is due extension
Cunningham/Sasser
Ivey/Thompson/Beasley/Moore
Bridges/Holland/Fontecchio
Harris/Reed/Klintman
Duren/Stewart
-New Orleans creates major flexibility in swapping veterans while getting a quality 2025 2nd as they can look to extend Ingram with flexibility or re-tool around Murray/Williamson.
Murray/Alvarado
Hawkins/Hardaway/Green/Reeves
Ingram/Murphy
Jones/Earl-Robinson/Williamson
Missi/Theis/Matkovic

I was looking at something similar when I saw Ivey was hurt.
NO gets thj and small filler.
Det gets CJ.
I guess bridges is another option if Detroit preferred him.

No thanks. Holland and Thompson need minutes to develop, and Miles is a scumbag.

New Orleans shouldnt be able to get out from under CJ's contract so easily, much less be incentivized to do so.

I think this does make sense if Detroit really wants to push for the playoffs. CJ is a great vet guy and still play some and is only a 1.5 season commitment. I think most Det fans would rather sell their cap space for assets but if no good trade is there for that then this type of move could make some sense. NOP just clears the books and evaluate things in the offseason.
Regarding OP, don't like CJ for Charlotte. He would have to take on a 6th man role there, they need more things before they worrying about that role.

Detroit was interested in bridges 2 summers ago, but we all know what happened then. I mean, can't really complain about the price here, but detroit is finally headed in a positive direction and I don't think they want to risk that bringing in a guy with so much baggage.

I've said for a while I'd not give out cap space for seconds. It's just at too much of a premium and this POS looks like he's got a bad deal.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

This might make some sense as CJ is still a good player. My only concern would be if he's taking the ball away from Cade at a time when he might be getting playoff experience as the QB.

This is a pass for Charlotte, we have a billion guards and Miller can play the 2 guard spot.
Also, getting a 33 year old McCollum makes no sense for Charlotte in general.

As others said, this makes more sense as a direct deal with CJ to DET. Especially now that Ivey is out.
CJM has changed his game to more of an off-ball spacer to play off of Ingram/Zion (when healthy, lol). So I think he would fit well playing off of Cade, recognizing his place in the shot hierarchy. He still has flashes of hero-ball when he feels he has it going, but I think the fit is there as a veteran alongside Cade for a playoff push.

Re: McCollum to CHA, Bridges to DET, TJH/2nds to New Orleans
We already have like 17 mini McCollums running around trying to get minutes, it's the one archetype where we are truly fine with. We are deathly thin at forward, and it just gets worse here.
Excellent tank trade though, forces Salaun into like 40mpg
