SAC/IND: Fox for Haliburton

Post#1 » by jowglenn » Thu Jan 2, 2025 4:31 pm

Just like the title says.

Kings trade: DeAaron Fox
Pacers trade: Tyrese Haliburton

Why for Kings: Fox wants out, so the Kings get a younger all-star point guard to replace him. They get to bring Haliburton back home, undoing the mistake of trading him away.

Why for Pacers: Haliburton has regressed to the mean a bit after his breakout season; with Nembhard and McConnell, the Pacers have plenty of ball handling and playmaking; Fox would give the team a lead scoring guard, a clear number one guy, instead of a table-setter.

I don’t think Hali is done growing. It took Fox until recently to really break out, he was in like his 5th or 6th season.

I would keep Hali. He’s locked up, young, and has a great marketable personality imo.

I also don’t think this Indy team with or without the swap is in the upper echelon in the East, so I’d go with the younger locked up guy for that reason too.

Yeah, Indy’s not trading a locked up Haliburton for a pending free agent in Fox.

Think it would be a nonstarter for Indy really. But they’re owed a good amount of value.

I'll always root for Hali but I don't like what I've seen since the all star break last year. Not sure if it's the injury or what but he hasn't looked very good.

It’s a combination I believe.

He is still obviously not 100%. At the same time, his game is not speed predicated and teams have figured out how to defend him. They need to have someone work with him on developing tricks to free him up and have guys give him better openings to work.

That said I wouldn’t be interested in this at all because having a guy like Hali who needs to control the ball and movement flow negates a lot of what Domas brings you.

I say yes to this. Contract status is important here and is there anyone the Kings could get that is potentially better than Hali in a trade? I don't think so unless they hit on a draft pick.

It's the same reason I don't think the Pacers do it. If Fox is committed to an extension that's a different story, but right now, don't think the Pacers can do it.

His first 15 were not great, for sure. His most recent 19 leading into tonight (where he’s got 20/12 halfway through the 3rd), he’s put up 19/9 on 48/39/89 splits and less than 2 turnovers per game.

He’s slowly getting back towards what he was last year. He had an absolutely terrible start to this year though, for sure.

Even if the contracts were identical, I'd still keep Haliburton over Fox.

He misses his Buddy! Buddy Hield.

Not to derail, and I know Minny wouldnt do it. But I'm intrigued by a Hali + for Edwards type package. Think both slide in very well with the other roster

Hali
Divencenzo
McDaniels
Randle
Gobert

Nembhart
Edwards
Mathurian or Nesmith
Siakam
Turner

It’s greedy, but any team would be looking to add Haliburton or Edwards to the other, not instead. Especially after the two hit it off in Olympics play. For Indy, outside of Edwards demanding a trade to Indy and nowhere else, there’s no real possibility, even if we did our best to build a package around Siakam/Nembhard/picks.

Pacers win when Haliburton scores. We don't need to replace him. We need to help him be more consistent.

Don't think Indy would be willing to deal Haliburton at all. But if they were, wouldn't Indy just take the locked up (at 25% of the cap) Tyrese Maxey instead of Fox?

Actually this is completely accurate.

He misses that threat of a volume 40% three point shooter next to him to take the pressure away.
