Butlet to Sacto or Butler+DDR to Detroit

Post#1 » by nolian » Fri Jan 3, 2025 4:00 pm

JimmyButler to Sacramento Kings
Derozan + Huerter + Lyles + 1 FRP (lottery protected)

Miami Heat
switch Butler with a professional healthy veteran player, a role player in his prime, ad a FRP
Herro-D.Robinson/Huerter-DDR-Highsmith-Adebayo

Sacto
the project with DDR failed, they go on and try to make the PO with Butler, above all to convince Fox to don't ask for a trade
Fox-Monk-Butler-Murray-Sabonis

***

Butler, DDR to Detroit
Cunningham, Beasley, Butler, DDR, Duren
they will be back to the playoff
(Stewart costs too much to be a back up, Fontecchio is out of coach's view)

TobiasHarris, THJ, R.Holland, protected FRP to Miami
Herro, D.Robinson/THJ, Highsmith/Jaquez, Tobias, Adebayo
Tobias become an expiring in june, R.Holland is a 19's rookie

Stewart, Fontecchio to Sacramento
Fox, Monk, Murray, Fontecchio, Sabonis
swich DDR for a couple of younger player
Fontecchio is functional ad Stewart can be their back up center

I do think the Kings would be in the market to make a competitive offer for Butler. There are 2 major questions:

DDR vs. Butler: Is Butler worth double the price?
DDR on Miami: Does Miami view him as a 'bad contract' given term he has left?

DeRozan/Huerter/Lyles/1st
for
Butler/Highsmith/Larsson

I think that would be framework of a deal IMO.

Hardest of passes from detroit. Cade is 23. Duren is 21. Ivey is 22. You don't add two 35 year old "stars" to that. And obviously, Jimmy wouldn't resign here anyway.

Hardest of passes for Miami, as well.

^This

Trading for ageing stars, whoever they are, is the last thing DET should do. We haven't been over .500 in years, but are finally headed in the right direction; cutting that short for the sugar rush of one round of Jimmy playing hero-ball in this year's play-in is just not worth it

I know
but during the summer they sign Tobias that is 32 and they trade for THJ that is 32 too

so I think that they want to grow up (after three year below 20 win and six years below 25), create a new (winning) culture
Now they are losing Ivey for injury

Butler is for few month rental
DDR has a three year contract and is a professional (healthy) veteran that can help Cunningham and the others young player to grow up

I don't tell you that Detroit want to do that trade, but i think the idea is not too bad

Detroit is happy to move Tobias and THJ, but always looking for youth/picks. This trade doesn’t make sense.

We’re going to see a lot of trades w Detroit proposed between now and the deadline. They got cap space that almost every team needs to complete a trade. Detroit needs to be patient and take advantage of the most desperate team. This trade isn’t that.

Nah. The plan was to sign a couple vets to short term details to help evaluate/develop Cade and to a lesser extent Ivey. We weren't sending out picks and young players in some misguided win-now move.

And you'll notice that the guys were brought in were all low usage floor spacers. We aren't looking for short term pieces to take the ball out of cade's hands and take up all of his midrange game space.

All true. Another huge factor behind both signing Harris, trading for THJ, and picking up Paul Reed from the waiver wire: DET had to reach the salary floor by opening night, and if it didn't, it would forego the lucrative distribution from the luxury taxes

DET had to take on a few negative value contracts to reach the salary floor.

Sac not sending a capable player who actually plays most every night and adding a first protection or not. No point to that.

I'd take aging superstars in exchange for junk/cap room, but not giving up Holland or a future first to irresponsibly accelerate the timetable.

Yup. I keep saying it in trades proposed. Detroit, for the first time in whats seems like decades(it might actually be)is in the cat-bird seat. Team on the upswing. Young picks all over the team. Valuable trade assets, and a clear #1.

Some team, is gonna have to cough up a first for that capspace. If not, no deal is getting done with Detroits capspace involved.

How much value do you think DET would want for Tobias Harris?

I think Harris will be a victim of a multi-team trade, if Detroits involved. He is 100% trade bait i believe.

Who's giving you youth and picks to take on Tobias's and THJ's deals? I don't see any team sending out 1sts and intriguing prospects for that honor.

If anything if you're right about players not wanting to sign there then adding legit vets via trade isn't a bad move. As long as you don't pay too much for them that is. Buying low on a Jimmy/DDR combo to get the kids in the playoffs is not a terrible way to spend 1 half seasons worth of cap space.

Well. Sorry. I should change that to if it were him and draft capital for DDR then that's fine. Detroit isn't taking Huerter and Harris isn't a guy that you send pick(s) for IMO.

Huerter and 2 of our minimum contract players for Harris works salary-wise. And Huerter and Lyles for Harris also works salary-wise (although I’d prefer the former option and keep Lyles). If the price to land Harris is to throw in an extra 2nd or two, I’d listen.

And with Ivey going down with his injury, I could see guard minutes being freed up for Huerter to help fill.

Excellent points. Giving Lyles away just puts the Kings at the same lack of depth so I wouldn't want to go there though, even though Harris is obviously a lot better.

I'm not sure the Pistons don't have enough to cover Ivey any way. Cade/Sasser/Beasley/THJ/Ausar/Fontechio seem to be enough? Having said that they are in a fight for a play in spot and they do want to win so Huerter might just be interesting there.
