The kid really looks like an alien. Doesn't makes sense how he can move that well and have those skills at that size.

Plus has the personality, work ethic and confidence needed to be great. He's the real deal. Easily best prospect since Lebron and you can argue he has even more upside.

He's like a KD/Gobert hybrid but taller, just unreal. We wont ever see another one like him, he's a nature freak just like a Shaq or Lebron.

Lets pray he can keep away from serious injuries, NBA really needs him.

Not sure if even Lebron had become this dominant in his second season in the league.

Having Victor develop an lethal 3 point shot is just a cheat mode at this point.

Heaven help us all in the next few years. Sheesh

Second year LeBron, at least right now, has no argument over Wemby. LeBron did make strides offensively but his defensive impact wasn't anywhere close to this. This is outrageous what Wemby is doing.

I really hope he has the durability LeBron did.

2nd year LeBron was 6th in MVP voting, held back by team not making playoffs.

I wonder where Wemby will finish in MVP voting

What makes Wemby any different than the other 7 foot freaks that have played in the league(Shawn Bradley, Manut Bol, Ghorge Murisan, the Chinese guy from ~15 years ago, anyone else I'm forgetting)? Everybody was excited when they came into the league, but they didn't do much.

What about that 7'9 guy who's in college right now? I think he plays for UF or some other team in Florida. I can't wait to see him in the NBA.

Aren't really tall guys more suceptable to leg injuries? And isn't it easier to steal the ball from them while they're dribbling?

For his sake I am going to assume he is strictly talking about their tendency to get injured and therefore couldn’t do as much as anticipated. The difference between them and Wembanyama is that Wemby is very light footed, moves like a guard. His feet have to literally care less weight, but his play also puts less strain on them. He is much less prone to feet injury than big men from yesteryear.

How the hell he forgot Yao Ming, one of the most globally popular players ever is not something I understand.

I'm guessing he meant Yi Jianlian because Yao was one of the best players in the NBA when he was able to play and he was listing guys who weren't that good. Although Yi was "only" 7 feet so maybe not.

He’s just substantially more fluid and athletic than they are, even not accounting for all the skills. They look like slow motion next to him.

What argument is there for 2nd year LeBron over Wemby? Curious.

And MVP ranking as metric is about the worst possible idea.

The question is which players in NBA history was better that current Wemby at their second year?

The list is not very long for sure

2nd year:

LeBron: 8.6 BPM (#2), +8.8 on/off, +0.3 SRS, Drew Gooden (+1.6 BPM), 6th in MVP voting
Doncic: 8.4 BPM (#4), +1.2 on/off, +4.9 SRS, Kristaps Porzingis (+1.9 BPM), 4th in MVP voting
Wemby: 8.4 BPM (#4), +15.6 on/off, -0.4 SRS, Chris Paul (+1.7 BPM), 5th in MVP ladder

And LeBron was a ~year younger than both Luka and Wemby. I think they're pretty close to each other as players, LeBron was the best statistically adjusted to the league (#1 in VORP), Wemby has the best on/offs, Doncic was probably the most NBA and playoff ready, he had great performance against Clippers in the bubble.

Yes it just occurred to me yesterday that Wemby is outpacing LeBron in terms of trajectory already.

I think it's even better for the NBA that he was drafted to a low market but likeable team in San Antonio.

He would quickly become hated if he played for The Knicks, Lakers, Bulls etc (Sorry but that is the truth)

Feels like he is also an introvert type of personality who prefers a smaller market like SA anyway.

Hypothetically speaking, if someone was going to enter the NBA and become the GOAT, what is something ypu would want them to do (realiatically) that Wemby isn’t doing?

Scoring, shooting, passing, rebounding and an unprecedented defender. Plus leadership, team-oriented, coachable, confident, nice to little kids, highlights AND stats.
These are the opinions of one lifelong Spurs fan, nothing more
