They had enough time to do it THIS season, but better late than never I guess.

Nature is healing. I went to NYC to see Rose get drafted and I'll be in attendance to see him get his jersey retired. Well deserved to the Chicago legend!

I guess they'd rather sell tickets for multiple Rose games than just one. Who would have thought?

Finally, some good chicago bulls news. Despite his short peak, he deserves it.

LOVE THIS. I suspect it was the plan all along. To not announce it until today. And to not do it til next year. They've got to maximize the marketing impact.

Easily one of my favorite athletes ever, and the best Bull since Michael. Well deserved despite the relatively short era of success.

He didn't do enough to get his jersey retired. Not his fault since his body fell apart but having his jersey next to Michael and Scottie is laughable.

He did his best. His body betrayed him. I think it's a good move for the franchise.

He deserves it.

Michael and Scottie aren’t a reasonable bar.

What about having his jersey next to Love and Sloan?

Yeah, Rose was way better than those guys, so IMO it absolutely make sense to retire his jersey.

Rose has had the most individual and lead the greatest team success for the Bulls in over a quarter century. That's a reasonable bar to get a jersey retired. Otherwise we might wait 300 years for another guy who is better.

How about compared to Love or Sloan?

I don't think Jordan/Pippen need to be the bar. Rose represented a good era of Bulls basketball and won an MVP and had a deeper connection with fans than any other Bull since Jordan. I don't feel strongly about Rose, nor do I care about the 'from chicago' stuff or anything else, but it's a reasonable move for many reasons.

I'd be good with a Joakim number retiring too for kind of similar reasons.

His jersey does not to be retired . He gave the Bulls for good years and too meh years . And he led the bulls to nowhere . He never lead them to at least one nba final . H

Sloan/Love was a different time, and not one I'm familiar with. A lot of guys should have their numbers retired if that's the bar. Players are rightly judged against their own eras. The Bears have Sid Luckman's number retired. That will never happen for Jay Cutler even though his numbers and ability were vastly superior, nor should it.

The "Chicago stuff" is why his number is getting retired, ultimately. There was a time when LeBron's legacy was judged on never winning an NBA title. Derrick Rose made it to one Conference Final, lost in 5 games, and wasn't even able to hit the rim when the ball was in his hands at the end of regulation in Games 4 and 5. He's getting in based on the strength of his first three years and being from Chicago.

Yea it's really not deserved. He had 1 great season and 3 more very good seasons. If that one great season resulted in a championship I would agree. But this is our bar for success post MJ. Sad

I'm glad this is happening and would love to see Noah's jersey retired next. With Jordan and Pippen being completely disconnected from the franchise, we'll probably see the Thibs-era team ushered in to be the "legend" figureheads we see at games.

I don't know. His Bulls accomplishments are:

Rookie of the Year
MVP
3x All-Star
1-Time All NBA
Played 7 years with the franchise.

I don't see any problem with it getting retired. Probably not a HOFer, but a jersey retirement is different.

He did nothing to deserve this.

Good PR move from a team that is not giving anything good to the fans right now, a little ceremony for the "kid from chicago"

Bulls were dumb for not bringing Rose back after the Timberwolves years.

Should have kept Jimmy too. The team would be guaranteed to make the 2nd round almost every year. But some fans here doesn't like that.
