Thing I’ll say about Lamar is yes the numbers look good but I think it’s more than just the numbers that you gotta look at. He’s got Derrick Henry on that team too. Kinda like last years voting, I think purdy and mccafery took votes away from each other.

If it’s close for a voter and a voter needs to decide between josh Allen and Lamar Jackson for example, does the fact that Lamar has Derrick Henry and josh doesn’t have any significant playmaker on his team sway a voter? Maybe.. this is the “most valuable” player award, not the “who’s got the best stats award”. If it was then that’d probably go to joe burrow anyway.

That's part of my rational of why I think Josh gets the MVP over Lamar. Josh doesn't really have a true #1 anything on the offensive side of things, I mean people will say Barkley shouldn't get X,Y,Z because of Philly's offensive line being the best in the league. Really hope either guy gets a SB this year.

Slightly off topic but if Lamar wins the MVP this year and/or a super bowl where does he rank all time IMHO he's got to be top 10 with the potential to be higher if he keeps collecting more trophies

Meh, Barkley would play one more game, but he’s doing it in less carries than Dickerson. Carries matter more than games played. Especially since it’s a passing league more than it was in the 80s, when teams fed their RB way more. Can’t bemoan the fact that passing numbers are inflated today AND also act like RBs didn’t get way more opportunities to put up numbers as a result back in the day. Meh, the extra game rhetoric without acknowledging the difference in carries and how the game is much more tailored around a passing attack now, which makes what Barkley is doing more impressive and not an asterisk, just seems like old heads hating on the newer players a bit.

And Dickerson broke the record in 16 games, OJ set the previous record in 14 games. So wouldn’t that mean that 16 game records also don’t count the same?

You guys are acting like Burrow and Jackson aren’t putting up much better numbers with the better offensive weapons though.

Josh Allen doesn’t have the weapons that they do…and he’s putting up worse production as a result. It’s not really rocket science. It would be one thing if he had similar numbers with worse weapons, then I can buy the MVP case. But they’ve flat out been better. Sometimes you have to play with weak weapons. Them’s the breaks. You don’t get rewarded MVP for it when other guys have flat out been better than you.

His team record has just as much to do with the fact that clearly his defense has stepped up for him when they’ve needed it, his weapons can’t be as bad as people think, and they’ve had a weak sauce schedule.

Emphasis on passing also opened up lanes for running backs, largely responsible for running backs of today having higher ypc. I dont think Barkley has seen 8 men boxes that someone like Dickerson and even Emmitt Smith saw.

I dont think season records matter anymore, once we get to 18 game seasons pretty much every season record will be broken .

James Cook stats would look a lot better if Allen didn't steal his rushing TD's. For example...Gus Edwards had 13 rushing td's for BAL last year and Henry had 16 TD's this year for BAL.

The only argument against Lamar is this would be his 3rd MVP and it's hard to argue a guy who has 2 career playoff wins in 6 years, never making it out of the divisional round, should have 3 MVPs

It's the same reason Nikola Jokic didn't win 3 straight MVPs, because it was hard to justify that for someone with his playoff success at the time.
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

Jokic actually has way more influence over wins and losses than Jackson does.

I don't think many fans understand that though.
