Hopefully he gets in but he would have to beat out like 10 other guards:
Brunson/Haliburton/Lamelo/Mitchell/Herro
Garland/Maxey/Lillard/White/Young
Brunson/Haliburton/Lamelo/Mitchell/Herro
Garland/Maxey/Lillard/White/Young

Big game from Cade against Minny. Quite impressive. Was hitting from 3 and absolutely crushed it inside the arc en route to the win.

Re: Cade Cunningham should be a all star
If Franz was healthy, he'd be in over Cade. Nearly every advanced metric had Franz in or near the top 10 players this year.tmorgan wrote:Yeah, I get that Franz looked great this year before getting hurt, but it’s not a big sample of games. He spent the previous season struggling from three, and while he’s very talented and versatile, I”m not sure if we have any proof yet of an elite skill.
You can easily make counter-arguments against Cade, too, don’t get me wrong. But this is his first season without multiple “shouldn’t be in the NBA” teammates getting significant minutes, and suddenly he looks better and so does Detroit. Not a coincidence. Just give Cade a lob threat, competent shooters, and some defensive help, and he’ll get you 25 and 10 nightly. And while his defense is a work in progress, it has definitely improved.

Re: Cade Cunningham should be a all star
Hey if someone favors Franz over Cade I have no problem with that, Franz is really damn good. I'm taking my chances on Cade long term because I believe in him, but either way it doesn't take anything away from what he's doing right now.

Melo's team has 7 wins. Players and media, in theory, shouldn't vote for that guy.
Brunson and Mitchell should get in.
Maxey is on an awful team too.
White doesn't have the stats
Trae will get in being the assist leader.
Hali and Herro have similar team records but across the board, Cade has better counting stats.
If he gets snubbed, it'll be because of Dame but i would hope coaches would want to give a guy his 1st nod vs old head getting another one.

Zero.
None.
Only contrarian and/or illogical fans on the sidelines (who would face no real world repercussions from making such decision) would opt for Franz in such an either/or hypothetical.
Mobley or Cade is a much tougher decision and would depend entirely on the value you place on their two “critical-to-winning” in the modern NBA positions; a high-end 6’11” 3&D big vs a heliocentric 6’7” triple-double-threat lead guard.
I think most executives would be fairly split in that decision with maybe a slight edge to Mobley. Not because he’s the better player but more so due to the rarity and difficulty of finding that kind of big man in today’s game.
Eh, I'm a Cade fan but I wouldn't go that far. Franz is the real deal and is every bit of a franchise player that Cade is although with more help aiding him.
I think both go ahead of Mobley if a team is starting a franchise. Mobley is the ultimate complimentary player, he's not a guy that can carry a team like the other two.

I think he deserves it over Hali, Maxey, Lilliard, Lamelo, and probably Young.

Re: Cade Cunningham should be a all star
I said all along, if he keeps putting up 24+ PPG, 9+ APG, and 6+ RPG and the Pistons stay near .500 he deserves it... if the team drops off to be out of the play-in then he doesn't really deserve it give it to the best player on better teams. So far the team has stayed right where it needs to be just a game under .500 with Portland up next.
As a Pistons fan I'm fine either way if he makes it or not... Not making it means more rest and maybe a little more fuel to the fire of feeling like he's been snubbed but if he makes it he's the first Pistons all-star since Blake Griffin in 2019 which is great.

He won’t get snubbed.
NBA needs Cade to be good. He finally is. I wouldn’t trade him for any guard in the East. Not one.

The only guards on that list that have a reasonable case over him are Brunson and Mitchell.
Garland and Lillard are in the same tier and are the ones he is really battling against.
Herro, Young and White are just below.
LaMelo has impressive counting stats but is playing on one of the worst teams in the league and has only played two thirds of their games.
Maxey and Haliburton don't have a case to make this season (what they have done in prior seasons is irrelevant).

Cade continues to show that he’s the best guard in the East.

Hes a lock and should start to be honest. Only guard better at this very moment in the East is Brunson by a hair.

Pistons back to .500 for the first time in the month of January since 2018. And Cade’s output through four games in January…
35.2 PPG
11.1 APG
8.3 RPG
2.0 SPG
46% 3PT

He has finally put up a 3 BPM season which is barely good starter level. Career high in turnovers and usage. True shooting is up 0.7% over last year due to scorching hot start. Will eventually settle back down to low 1.x or low 2.x range. But I guess we should be happy about progress right

Re: Cade Cunningham should be a all star
Maybe 1 or 2 seasons late, but he'll surely be an All-Star, and should be a perennial one at that, as far as I'm concerned.
Detroit's young core is very interesting for me. If one (or more) of Ivey, Duren, Thompson or Holland hit another jump or two in production, or if they hit 1 or 2 future picks and improve their rotation players, they could be catapulting to contender status in a couple of years.
Obviously the same could be said for a lot of teams. I just think Detroit's dark days seem to be over, this team is definitely on the rise... and Cade could get some MVP votes in the future as well.

Re: Cade Cunningham should be a all star
He needs to be way more selfish. He let's others eat when he clearly is the best player. Not sure Pistons will support him properly if he doesn't assert himself.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno

he takes the 7th most shots a game in the league, is 3rd in touches per game and is 2nd in the league for time of possession. considering how much he is the engine for the team his unselfishness is a huge asset imo. other than harris, ivey was the only one on the team who could create their own offense and even that was limited. the pistons 100% rely on cade to get to his spots, force the defense to collapse and make plays from there.
duren recently had an 8 dunk game and so against portland the threat of cade's passing let him get open layups like this and this. his "take what the defense gives you" approach and ability to capitalize is one of the reasons why he is the player he is.

Hoping for an Orlando-esque rise but the Pistons are missing their version of Franz Wagner to their Paolo Banchero. Maybe Ivey turns into that guy but not sure if he has the upside to be a high end #2 option or 1B like in Franz's case.
