Butler to Pelicans, Ingram/McCollum to Heat

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Mon Jan 6, 2025 2:12 am

Ill offer this idea for:
-New Orleans to get under tax short term and get arguably best player in deal as they can build around MUrray/Butler/Zion
-Miami gets a younger wing to align with ages of exisitng core pieces
-Detroit leverages cap space to get back a 1st

To New Orleans (Trade Ingram, McCollum, protected 1st)
-Jimmy Butler (1 year, $48.8 million plus $52 million P.O.)
-Tim Hardaway Jr. (1 year, $16 million)
-Pelle Larson (1 year, $1.1 million plus $1 million guaranteed)

To Miami (Trade Butler, Robinson, Larrson)
-Brandon Ingram (1 year, $36.1 million)
-CJ McCollum (2 years, $63.3 million)

To Detroit (Trade Hardaway)
-Duncan Robinson (2 years, $39.3 million - $9.88 million guaranteed next season)
-2028 New Orleans 1st round pick (lottery protected; 2029 lottery protected; 2030 lottery protected or extinguished)

Why?
-The Pelicans get under the tax while swapping Ingram for Butler and McCollum fpr Hardaway as it gives Pelicans flexibility if they want to extend Butler and move forward with a core of Murray/Butler/Zion for next season

-The Heat look to get a younger wing to align with ages of existing core pieces as Ingram could look to extend in Miami. McCollum can share backcourt with Herro

-The Pistons help New Orleans get out of the tax as they swap Hardaway for Robinson as the get back a distant lottery proptected 1st for money they take on.

The Heat balk the moment McCollum’s two-year deal is mentioned. Ingram for Butler could work, but they aren’t going to be interested in McCollum. They would also want the Pelicans’ pick you have going to Detroit.

I don't see the Pelicans wanting Butler, at least not this season. We're already half way through and they're 7-29.

Yeah, I think there is a much simpler way to get this done.

Miami trades Butler to Memphis and Love and Burks to New Orleans
Miami receives Smart and Ingram

Memphis trades Smart to Miami, Clarke, Konchar, and Kennard, with draft picks, to New Orleans
Memphis gets Butler

New Orleans trades Ingram to Miami
New Orleans receives Clarke, Kennard, Love, and Burks, with draft picks from Memphis

Well if extension talks with Ingram aren’t progressing, maybe Pelicans feel they could get Butler on a 3 year deal if he opts out this summer

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Duncan is not on an expiring contract.

Yea and Pels aren't giving up a 1st in this. Let's fix it-- send CJ to DET (vet spacer guard replacement for Ivey, they can stomach next year's 30m), THJ to MIA and they keep Robinson, Pels don't send out any firsts. So it's:

MIA in: Ingram
NOP in: Butler, THJ
DET in: CJ

Maybe DET sends some 2nds to NOP and MIA since CJ just scored 50, lol. MIA gets Ingram as replacement, cap flexibility. NOP takes a chance on Alpha Butler to set the tone for Zion, DET gets a vet spacer scorer for Cade. Unlikely, but fun.

If Jimmy can't find the joy playing in Miami, I doubt he would find that joy in New Orleans.

Heat pass to og trade!

Not that McCollum is a bad player but his contract is an issue. If you heard the rumors, Miami has issues about contract.
Ingram has an expiring contract, and to avoid putting this trade into waste, BI should be resigned by Miami in the off-season which puts them into the tax even more next season. Trade McCollum to somewhere else for expiring contract to put the heat below the tax nxt season while keeping BI

Wait, yall think the Pels want to trade a first round pick to turn Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum into Jimmy Butler? And take on Duncan? Serious questions.
