Trade KCP?

I’m pretty sure FO wants Paolo and Franz to continue to develop play making skills and thus didn’t add a PG to take the load off them.

This is how I see it.

We just happen to have lost our two main playmakers and happen to also have an unconventional lineup where both of those players are Forwards. Still no different as much compared to a team losing both their star pg and forward. No matter what, you'll be down playmaking.

It gave Paolo and Franz room to grow in that aspect... And also left the door open for players like Anthony black and Jalen suggs. If they fail to meet expectations I'm sure they will pivot too. But you still have to give these players ample time to fail and succeed... And that timeline might be longer than we anticipate.

does it matter that one of said players has publicly stated he didnt want to be the primary focus of the offense and wanted a PG to help lessen the load and help give him some easy baskets?

as i said.... give Suggs and AB a chance to grow into those roles. And in the absence of the PG ... Franz has grown to the point that he is a playmaker that Paolo can play off of. Point is... IF they are rolling with it... it's most likely cuz they think answers are already on their team.... and in order to see if those answers work.... they will be given an opportunity.

We won’t have cap space for a decade if all goes. It’ll be trades from here on out anyway. That said, I’d like to see KCP with the core in the playoffs at least once before trading him… unless an all-star caliber player is available and he is needed to make the trade work.

enhance a top-10 defense, while being bottom of the league offensively and were the same last year with a healthy Paolo/Franz. They had Gary for veteran leadership and doubled down on his clone for more $

Why would we do that? Here are some reasons that I feel are why we should…

1. He still has some league respect.

Even after a disastrous start to the season I believe he is still respected at the moment. Trade him before it’s too late. There are certainly some contenders and fringe contenders that would have interest in obtaining him just based on his veteran status and defensive prowess alone.

2. He doesn’t fit the team, nor the timeline.

Let’s face it, he’s not the fit to the team we thought he would be. Even when Paolo was playing and Franz was balling, KCP still was flat. His bests production games have come with Banchero and Wagner out. On top of that, there’s no way KCP remains our starting SG of the future with his age and declining play. So why not give the time to AB or someone else we obtain at PG/SG instead? He’s a duplicate to Gary Harris, as most of us knew already.

3. He is not who he used to be.

KCP still brings tenacious defense, I’ll certainly tip my hat for that. But his shot is broke, and his drive game is dwindling. He also has been flat from mid range too. It was just a bad gamble, plain and simple, for the Magic to have signed him.

Should we trade KCP while we still can and he has value? Idk if we get filler or future picks for him at this stage. It’ll be addition by subtraction. We already have Gary Harris.

He has been great from mid-range actually, he is shooting 51.6% from 16-23 feet which is elite. And he never really had much of a driving game.

The only significant problem with him, and it's a big one, is his poor 3 point shooting. His defense has been excellent.

They are focused on building a contender by 2027. Isolated single game results are noise.

They drafted AB, who is already as good or better defensively.

KCP is a super low volume scorer. Gary Harris is the same guy by the numbers. He's basically a 2022-23 less efficient Gary Harris. Oh yeah, and we have Gary Harris. His numbers dropped off significantly on that side of the ball since signing with AND without our stars.

Veteran leadership? Have you seen that in some of these games? Not a metric of substance that means anything. Cory Joseph won a championship with the Spurs in 2014. Does that matter?

It was a stupid signing that honestly didnt need to happen. It displaced Suggs and didnt solve anything.

I'm disappointed in KCP 3 ball like everyone here. Complaining about his scoring seems weird though. He's never been a great scorer or a high volume scorer. He's just been historically way more efficient. His defense and reliability is what's really valuable to us. I don't see a realistic trade that moves the needle. I look to the future and I like the idea of AB/Suggs backcourt of the future and I see KCP as a veteran presence coming off the bench almost like a TRoss role but with excellent defense and a history of being a winner. His true value for the magic isn't in this season but in the next few years.

Love his defense, so disappointed in his shooting so far. He was such a good theoretical fit!

Still think I want to give him a look playing with P5 & Franz before trading him but I can see the allure of moving him.

Denver seems to believe that losing KCP has been a serious blow to their success, maybe we can get more than he’s worth from them and wrangle in a 3rd team to get a piece that will help us Win more?

KCP doesn't seem like a guy you want to carry you when everyone else is injured. He did struggle when we had more of a healthy team, but we still only had like a 5 game sample size. I feel like he will settle back to around 35-40% (at least in those months) where Franz and Paolo are back.

Also impressive that he only missed one game so far, and that was because of the birth of his child.
