ORL sends Jonathan Isaac (drops from $25m to $15m next year!), Gary Harris (expiring/TO)
NOLA sends CJ McCollum (one more at &30.7m)
Why ORL…CJ can still sling it. Great role in ORL off the bench, but getting big minutes. He’s still good enough to command respect. Great communicator, professional bearing, puts up & makes 3’s as well as anyone. Could play well next to AB, as well as starters…showing AB how to play on and off-ball, while AB is already a very capable complement as a defender and, hopefully, finishing plays as a spot up shooter & cutter…ORL would hope he’d re-up for 2 or 3 guaranteed years at a lower salary- if he likes the vibe. He’s got to be ready to accept a lesser, but significant role on a dynamic young contender-in-the-making.
Why NOLA…Above all, money, in this disastrous year. Isaac could find a home, even in limited minutes next to Zion and/or Ingram. He’d also provide a solid example of selfless, relentless, instinctive defensive play for Missi. At $15m per (with “outs”), the injury history is somewhat addressed. He is, arguably, the most impactful defender, from perimeter to rim, in the NBA. His presence is felt whenever he’s on the floor. Harris is a solid, heady 3&D vet and a good locker room guy.

Yes. One more year of grace before Paolo’s inevitable max hits. They badly need a backcourt playmaker who can shoot. I’m concerned about the upcoming cap crunch and I hope they make some lateral moves this summer to clear their books of deeper bench guys making too much. Cole Anthony, Wendell Carter, Moe Wagner…all good players on, arguably, reasonable deals - but too much in context of small-market, small-wallet ORL’s roster and their respective roles. Ironically, I’m proposing picking at NOLA because of their present state. Orlando may soon be the ones selling off “non-core” but decent players to avoid excessive $$ penalties.
ORL has enjoyed the luxury of overpaying role players and being patient…now that their top 3 are about to get big deals, they need to bargain shop for end of the bench guys. But they need CJ’s skillset now. Pay the top 7 or so guys and tighten the rotation…until you’re receiving the national respect to draw the vet minimum ring-chasers.

Can it be Cojo instead? Give NOP more breathing room from the tax. And Orlando could use the slightly larger salary in a trade for a new defensive big.. minor but seems to help both teams.
I like the buy low for NOP. And chopping CJ’s contract down next season.
Sad for Orlando to give up on Isaac, but love the fit of CJ..
Think I’d find the third team for KCP though? KCP/Cole for CJM/? And keep my bigs, keep the salaries pretty neutral

I’m not 100% either, but I was under the impression that ORL was good post-Suggs & Franz extensions but pre-Paolo’s…ORL ownership would probably trade Paolo for picks if they’re cruising to the 2nd Apron

Nope you are at 199M right now for next year and after this trade will be at about 207M.. slightly over the 2nd apron i believe

Seems like a good move for both. ORL can probably find another way to trim down salary enough to avoid apron.

Maybe you already caught this, but…quite a few ORL guys have Team Options (may not have factored in your calcs?)

-Pablo, Black and Howard's TO has been accepted already
-Joseph and houstan dont make much more than vet min/is pretty inconsequential
The only questionable option decision is Mo Wagner. I suspect given relationshpi w/ Franz and his strong play pre-injury Orlando will choose to keep him?
