LAL - Phoenix - OKC

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Tue Jan 7, 2025 12:55 am

OKC out: Joe, worst 2025 1st
OKC in: Rui, LAL 2026 top 10 protected swap w/ HOU/LAC/OKC 1st

LAL out: Rui, 2026 top 10 protected swap
LAL in: Allen

Phoenix out: Allen
Phoenix in: Joe, OKC's worst 2025 1st

Why for Phoenix: get an asset to use to upgrade elsewhere
Why for OKC: add some size and avoid roster crunch with 3 upcoming 1sts this draft
Why for LAL: get the 2 way wing they covet

If those assets can facilitate a Beal for Butler deal, I’m in. Otherwise I might be able to find a better return. But this is exactly what I think the Suns should be doing with Allen right now - shopping him for draft capital+.

I think OKC can do better with kicking the can on picks. Doesn’t excite me.

I probably should like it more than I do.

On paper, Rui is a good offensive player who can help with rebounding, and Joe is a bit redundant/in a slump. But I have a soft spot for Joe.

I want more of a 3 point threat.

Not sure people realize he has become an above average shooter for roughly 120 games now.

Problem is he in the poor man’s MPJ imo far consistently playing with IQ.

I think OKC would wanna keep Joe. Kenrich + Dieng + Dillon Jones + Weak first for Rui isn't crazy, but obviously makes little sense for the Lakers unless it's part of a 3 way deal and some young team wants those young assets.

Joe is just a filler and imo is redundant on their roster w/ cason/caruso/wiggins ahead of him. can make it kenrich/dieng instead sure

Lakers are getting smaller, older and having to give up picks here? If Lakers want to play a shooter who can't defend they have Knecht I would rather have Rui, he at least gives them size on defense.

Don't see Lakers having interest in Rui for Grayson Allen let alone throwing in a pick swap to do so.

There was a post recently in the thoughts in general thread on this subforum.

Basically all 3 point shooters are not equal. Some like Joe you need to guard even if he’s cold from 3 , while others like Dort , you may leave him open and dare him to make that shot. Joe may be shooting 35% from 3 this year while Dort is on 40% but you still need to guard someone like Joe over Dort.

I’m not too sure where on the scale of 3 point threat that Rui is as compared to Dort or Joe but I’m looking for someone closer to Joe .

Who you need to guard and who is putting points on the board are separate ideas.

You in for a rough night if you let Dort shoot above average on easy shots.

I have Rui at least equal to Grayson, so value is off for Lakers.

But if OKC is happy then maybe lakers leverage this to get an FRP with Joe to another team. Willing to provide a different target player.

I think they like him. Hits 3s, their on/off is the same as when he's in or out, cheap contract. That's not nothing.

I’m just clarifying to him what I was referring to with regards to 3 point threat .
