Silver's Biggest Worry?

Let's say your the commissioner. What would your biggest worry be, now that the TV contracts have been completed. What is the biggest single problem the NBA has?

I voted other, because I feel that illegal/legal streaming control (market share) is probably up there on the list but wasn't mentioned. The gambling is an issue too, as will how the NBA markets games post-LeBron/Curry.

They are all issues but the biggest is the fact their target audience has little interest in sitting thru an entire game regardless of the platform. My kids mainly just watch highlight plays on social media.

The choices are all good ones to be considered, but he definitely has a problem with the proverbial "changing of the guard." This league has little to like in terms of marketable names going forward when compared to their peers and the personalities don't sit well with a good contingent of fans: brash, arrogant, and irresponsible. None of those descriptors are positive, but they definitely stick when taking aim at future gatekeepers of the sport and league.

Let me explain to the non-working people what's important to businesses.

Silver is worried about leage profitability (which by extension is viewership and TV deals).

This is obvious, but the issue is to ensure/increase profits-which is his job. How does he keep the league growing?

Also, I will add the streaming option

Being unable to capitalise financially on social media boom for NBA.

I think he'd be thinking about how NBA can financially benefit from social media.

Definitely needing new marketable stars since LBJ / Curry / Durant are on their way out the next few years and nobody else has the same visibility.
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

you can't manufacture starpower / Q rating very easily. For whatever reason, players like Luka, Jokic, Giannis, SGA haven't gotten the same reception as the old guys yet. It takes years. I think if Memphis ever won something Ja could be a guy that gets real fan love. Edwards maybe but same thing, need to win.

I've posted this before but I also think foreign imports get less enthusiastic fan reception overall.
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

No that's not correct. They will literally flip the switch to Luka/Wemby/SGA/Ant and the NBA will be just as, if not more popular, than ever before.

You need to get hired by the league ASAP if you can manufacture star power

Thanks for the endorsement. Luckily for the NBA they know how to market the stars. I'll let you in on a secret. The NBA tells people who are superstars and who to follow. And you know what? We the public, maybe not the people here on RealGM as much as the majority of typical basketball followers, will, as it suggests, follow, what they say. This is how it works. Someone tell me different and show the results of that. We've always had superstars. It will never be we don't have superstars. And yes, you can manufacture a superstar if you like.

Gambling money is what is saving some sports leagues-- this might include the NBA soon. LOL

The game is unwatchable - too many too long stoppages.
Do you remember the Olympics tournament? This is how it meant to be played. Let us watch the game and not timeouts and replays of boring calls.

It sadly seems like it will only get worse if it's not cleared up when expansion takes place.

Honestly I cannot think of an other, so I went with the expansion as it could have devastating affects throughout the league, if it's not done according to a great protocol process.

This is a great point. All FIBA leagues seem like they're speeding the game up to keep it in a nice TV package and the NBA is something that lasts for 1.5-2 hours longer than it needs to be. But hey, when you got a big bill, you gotta pay for it someway.
