2025 OFFSEASON
I thought I'd start a new thread dedicated to the current offseason for the 49ers. Well so far, Brian Schneider fired as of last night. Hopefully Sorensen is next.

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Can someone explain why we should sign Purdy to a big deal this offseason rather than making him play out his current deal and then franchise tagging him a couple more times if he proves it? Unless you’re on the Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar level it seems like teams have way more regrets when they do this big deals than when they don’t.

Yup, and let's hope this year Kyle got more aware of how critical special teams are. Being last in the league means you will not win a championship. His comments on them seem to show a lack of interest in them. So maybe that changes. Yeah, let Sorenson go now and get in line for the best replacement available.49er4life1979 wrote:I thought I'd start a new thread dedicated to the current offseason for the 49ers. Absolutely. He should have at least gotten us to an NFC championship game by now, if not a Super Bowl.Big J wrote:Can someone explain why we should sign Purdy to a big deal this offseason rather than making him play out his current deal and then franchise tagging him a couple more times if he proves it? Pay the man. You got 3 good years on the cheap.

Right 3 cheap years with a fully stacked roster. If we pay him big money we will have to make cuts elsewhere, and he’s shown he can’t win with lesser talent around him.

Here we go again. You know this is going to start the same exact conversation from the Purdy thread that has been going on nonstop the entire season on that thread,

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Just saw the Podcast with Kawakami and Barrows - I have to agree its not looking good for Sorensen. If they truly wanted him back they would have said immediately. And Bosa's comment of "not my decision" not exactly a glowing endorsement. Bosa also implied scheme issues with the D. Yep. He's a goner.

What did they say? Kawakami has been wrong about things happening in the organization before. Even Maiocco had mentioned something about it

They said basically if they (49ers) were certain Sorensen was coming back they would have said so by now. The longer they delay in saying something and holding their end of season presser, the worse it looks for Sorensen.

Purdy less than $60K per game. It is nothing for him to hold out. He makes more with his ads. And sure, he may lose that ad money if he doesn't play, but he's got a lot of leverage precisely because he's so cheap. Curiously enough, the Niners coming off a down year actually gives him more leverage. If he sits five games, we could miss the playoffs again, and then Shanahan and Lynch would really be on the hot seat.
My hope is that both sides can reach a reasonable agreement that is well shy of $60 million. I agree that teams that sign second- or third-tier QBs to those deals end up regretting it. But it's just not realistic to expect Purdy to risk injury and play out the last season of his rookie deal. He won't - and shouldn't - do it.

Well on the flip side we could sign a competent mid tier free agent QB on the cheap like Minny did this year, and Purdy would be less likely to hold out in fear that he might lose his job if the team starts out strong.

Sure. That would be a reasonable move on our part to enhance our own bargaining position. Though I'm not sure many guys with starting potential are going to want to come here to compete with an established QB.

Then we should just trade for McCarthy or draft one.

Since Purdy has his own thread, can't we keep the Purdy discussion to the Purdy thread? Otherwise we have to read the exact same drivel in that thread in every other one. Can we keep this thread to the team's offseason as it relates to players that do not already have their own thread? Or is the copy/paste/vomit obsession so strong that it cannot be resisted to regurgitate the exact same argument in every thread?

I'm fine with that. Can we discuss bringing in other QB's here?

Re: 2025 OFFSEASON
Excellent start to the offseason. This is why tanking those losses were important. If they win 9 or 10 games and miss the playoffs like the Seahawks, I bet no major changes are made

Good riddance to both Schneider and Sorenson. Both very much earned their pink slips.

I'm guessing talking about who to bring in as QB2 and QB3 won't bring about much compelling conversation, thus there won't be much participation on that topic.
But knock yourself out.

I am very optimistic about next year. We still have most of the pieces we need to make a run. Assuming good health, the receivers could be stellar. Running backs look incredible too, and Purdy top 10. We definitely need help on the d line, maybe linebacker too but we ought to be able to come up with something. O line is an issue but serviceable? Maioccio a couple games back said our line rated 1on running and 14th on pass pro. Seems high but that's what he had.
