Post#1 » by shagadelic45 » Tue Jan 7, 2025 6:36 pm

LAL TRADES: JHS, 2025 #2 (LAC), Cash

DET:

Detroit waives JHS with the included cash and picks up a second for virtually nothing....

Lakers save considerable second apron tax money......

There’s no way this is the best Detroit can do selling cap space. A late 2nd? No.

Agreed. So Pistons have $14M in cap space? Not sure what that is worth but certainly hope it’s better than this.

I don’t see why LAL does this honestly. They need to be getting to get better not saving money at a level this small (no apron jump, no attractive buy out waiting) .. Think multiple teams would be willing to be the other team involved though.

Yeh sorry, Lakers not doing this, they can trade for Kessler with JHS and pics if they wanted. JHS will be used in a trade of some sort.

JHS has zero value, negative value. He has nothing to do with the Lakers trading for Kessler, which also isn't happening lol.

Never say never, only reason it hasn't happened yet is because Lakers don't want to use two pics. If Lakers use both pics, Utah will say yes

Already been much talk between the two teams

Yes, that could be JHS, Wood some combo of Reddish and Hayes. Point being Utah isn't going to value him over any other expiring contracts Lakers have. They all suck equally.

I don't think anyone is willing taking him without getting a pick back, so that would be negative enough for me. Let alone giving something up for him.

Who was making that point though? The point is JHS expiring can be use as expiring in some trade. Not that he had trade value

JHS is only 21 and a 6'6 shooting guard with an expiring contract ... *if* we were going to use a tiny bit of cap space to pick him and a second rounder up, why wouldn't we give him a proper try out? If he toxic in some way?

la is sending cash to cover all of JHS remaining deal....they can just waive with no charge and gain a second for virtually nothing...and still have the roster spot to do something else

It’s not nothing. It’s pure cap space, when almost no one has any. For a late 2nd.

No.

Obviously this isn't something detroit considers unless they completely strike out at the deadline. The pistons are looking to improve, not just be a salary cap dumping ground.

But if it comes to that type of thing, I think my fellow pistons fans are overestimating how valuable cap space is. $3 mil of cap space for a second would translate into 3 second rounders for a $14mil salary dump for contracts that expire in a couple months. That's really the top end of what a salary dump trade deadline would look like.... which is why I'm hoping we don't do that.
