PHX - TOR

Post#1 » by Thaddy » Wed Jan 8, 2025 10:15 am

Nurkic + Ighodaro + 2025 DEN 2nd

For

Olynyk + Agbaji

The Raptors get a C as a stopgap to make Poeltl expendable and gain a pick. Nurkic can be traded as well once they draft a prospect C.

The Suns save money, get a cheap swingman, and they maintain the same compete level.

Poeltl / Nurkic
Barnes / Mogbo
Barrett / Battle
Dick / Walter
Quickely / Mitchell

Plumlee / Olynyk
Durant / Dunn
Agbaji / Allen
Booker / Beal
Jones / Morris

Then take out Ighodaro and the 2nd rounder, and the whole deal falls apart.

It is questionable anyway, since the Suns need to upgrade their C position and this deal makes the opposite.

I don’t really understand it?

Phoenix needs to upgrade their center spot, and they have Booker, Beal, Allen, Okogie.. So they trade centers for Kelly and Ochai?

Feels like a miss on direction/need for Phoenix and depending on your thoughts on Ochai/Oso, a loss on value for Toronto.

Agree with previous...why would PHX, whose weakness is C...agree to get weaker? Especially, when they're so limited in what they can get done overall - their moves better count and impact success NOW

Seems like a bad deal for both teams. Toronto trades a good wing fit in Agbaji and Olynik to do what get a raw prospect and pay Nurkic $20 million next year if you don't move him.

I don't see how The Suns do this to get even smaller

PHX is over the 2nd apron and can't aggregate players in any trade so you can't include Ighodaro. The Denver '26 is probably past 45 so it's likely not worth eating the extra $12m on Nurkic's deal, let alone giving up a good player in Agbaji.

Maybe Nurkic + DEN '26 2nd for Olynyk is fair-ish value. Both guys are overpaid by about $6m/year. Adding in Agbaji makes it a complete no go.

They get a stretch big man and a cheap swingman they can try to develop and use to get off Beal's contract. This would also save them some money and bring them below the 2nd apron which gives them more flexibility in the off season.

The Raptors get a C to replace Poeltl when he's traded and basically 2 2nd round picks. They can develop Ighodaro to be a stretch big man that can pass, they lack prospect big men.

It works on fanspo's trade machine. What about switching Agbaji out for Mitchell? I don't view Agbaji as a very valuable piece. If he can get a young center that's great. It's nice Agbaji improved but he's a negative defender as he's been his whole career. He improved from a scrub to a slightly better scrub.

Nurkić off the team & we don’t get that much smaller. Win for me. I could care less about the other player.
