Jimmy apparently has eyes only for Phoenix. Beal reportedly is willing to go to either LA team, Denver or Miami.

Denver can't make the money work without trading a core piece, Miami is staunchly against taking on Beal's contract w/ the no-trade clause. So I guess that leaves Jimmy to PHX and Bradley to either the Clippers or Lakers (assuming either want him). Would have to be a 4/1 or 5/2 kind of deal to make the money work.

I think Jimmy would be fine ending the seasons anywhere else . So like who knows. But like I can't actually see any team wanting beal and most can't even swing that trade.

I'd disagree, I think right now Jimmy wants to go to a (the?) team that will give him the contract he wants on the timeline he wants. I don't blame him/his agent that they'd want to get a longer deal done sooner rather than later given his age and injury history which is why he'd opt out in the offseason to get it. But there aren't set to be many good teams with cap space to pay him, so he wants to get there now before the offseason.

The last time Jimmy forced his way out of somewhere it was also because of his contract/wanting to get paid the amount he wanted on his timeline.

Was really hoping Dallas would be on Beal’s list

Not upset that Dallas is left out of this all.

His list is the Suns. Butler's agent is just smart enough not to announce it publicly. As much fun as it might be to let the Heat marinate in the experience after the Dame fiasco, I'm still opening an investigation into reports that Butler's camp is telling competitive teams not to trade for him.

Yeah, it's a bit insane. He would be an amazing fit in Memphis or Milwaukee but him telling both teams to stay away is completely nuts to me. I mean, just the on paper fit is perfect with both.

Dame didn't have a choice because he was signed for so long, but Jimmy having the opt out and the ability to do... Exactly what he's doing now and did in Chicago and Minnesota... Gives him a ton of leverage. Unfortunately for him, it's also limited the teams willing to give him his extension.

It seems pretty clear that he views the Suns as a sure thing so he doesn't care. If I were the Suns, I'd be asking myself why Butler is so dead set on getting that extension right now. He more than anyone knows how much he has left in the tank. LBJ is still doing one and one contracts at 39-40 as to where Conley looks to have fallen off the proverbial cliff at 37.

His refusal of Memphis in particular baffles me. Such a good fit. They don't have to gut the team to make it happen, have assets to actually send back to Miami (so it's realistic), they're 3rd in the West with a core that is just entering their primes so they'd be poised to compete for the rest of his career. If they're willing to extend him with him declining his PO for next year, what's the problem?

Why go to Phoenix who are in cap hell, have no draft assets and are just a fringe play-in team in the West?

He wants a commitment to extend him as soon as practical after the trade and has apparently gotten that from the Suns (in a non-tampering kind of way). Also, he wants the leverage of getting traded to a team that really doesn't have a choice but to offer it lest they reconsider if he doesn't play well.

Do you know what that timeline is in terms of offering him an extension post-trade? Can they do it immediately or is there some sort of a moratorium where they have to wait post trade?

So could Memphis trade for him, he opt out of the PO immediately and then sign an extension (assuming the Grizz were on board with that or does he have to wait until this summer? If the latter then I get the desire to go to a team that's got no options other than staying the course regardless of the outcome (although in that case I feel like Milwaukee could be in that same boat, as would the LA teams etc., so still a bit odd that it's so specifically Phoenix or bust).

While there's a general prohibition against trading and immediately extending with your new team, I'm unaware of an instance where the parties were dumb enough to test the league on it. Normally everyone waits at least 60 days.

The reality is that if Jimmy turns out to be worth half of what he's asking for over the life of that contract, all of the Bucks, Lakers, and yes, even the Suns would be better off letting him walk. The potential cascade effect in terms of Durant and/or Booker asking out would be grave though.

The new CBA made the extend-and trade rules a lot more new team/player friendly. But you wouldn’t be opting out of the option, just adding up to two more years on the current deal.

The writing is pretty much on the wall. Butler to the Suns is currently +125 on DK. He has the leverage, Suns are paying him.
The only question is where does Beal land, Miami or a 3rd team with Miami getting scraps.

It sucks for the Heat, but this is a players league, especially for players who control their own destiny next year. Miami waited too long, tried to strong arm Butler and it failed. They could have traded this summer probably for at least 2 firsts, but it is too late for that. I would say chances are pretty strong they don't even get 1 first for him at this point.

Miami fans need to actually start being realistic for what they will get for Jimmy from that 3rd team, not shooting everything down because they aren't getting a star package back.

Butler is such a clown. What does this dude even want? He clearly doesn't actually care about winning if his main preference is Phoenix. Replacing Beal with Butler would make them slightly better but it in no way makes them favorites, especially with Booker regressing this season and KD another year older. Plus the fact that they have zero depth on that roster. Dude is just a diva, a spoiled brat. Is he really that butthurt over Riley telling him to pipe down over the summer? Because Riley was 100% correct.

DET, on paper, would be an interesting landing spot...ascending but not yet ready to contend. they could vault into becoming at least a tough out with JB...theyve got assets, prospects and $$$ if their FO wanted to, ironically, go Riley on the weak East
