We're estimated to have 83 in cap. You could give Allen 20m and still add 4/5 starters on the line.

My line would have been 15m but it sounds like it could be less. Which would obviously be better.

Pass on Allen for me. The money is better spent elsewhere regardless of how little the number is. He’s old and only going to get worse. DJ and Odunze and Kmet and Swift should be getting the bulk of the catches going forward. Tyler Scott or whoever can be our WR3 and 4/5 option in the passing game. A better coach and a better offensive line will hopefully do a better job of scheming guys open. Even if the number is cheap I’d rather spend less on WR that far down the pecking order not to mention that money could be better served in FA or extending our own players.

I’ve been in support of retaining Allen at the right dollar amount. However, you make a very good point with regard to extending our own guys. Brisker and Gordon extensions are right around the corner and I feel like we really need to retain them both. Having money to do so will be paramount.

I’d also rather have cheap upside 3/4 WRs than an old luxury one like Allen.

Poles needs be more shrewd with how he allocates money and the draft.

We didn’t know that Poles is “enamored”, but the important question that will determine the outcome is if Ben is impressed enough by Poles to take the job over what a couple of these other places have as well. Sure we have trepidation. Will these coaches also have trepidation is the thing. Honestly, George’s committee seems like it could come off as reflective of all the bad press the Bears get.

They also are not meeting with any candidates in person for the first round including those who are not currently restricted.

That sounds very positive.

As far as how quickly the Bears move to give him an offer- I think that depends on how the interview goes. If you come away 100% convinced he's your guy, sure, you can skip the other interviews and lock him up. But if you're only 75% sure or less, it's your duty to listen to more candidates to be sure.

People judge the coach solely on whether or not they win, and win big. It's often not really the coach that determines that. So to say the Bears, or McCaskey, has picked the wrong coach for all these years is not really accurate, IMO.

More than I expected him to take. Tom Brady could be impressive for the Raiders. We’re under the impression BJ is interested in teams with quarterbacks though. But BJ does indicate he needs well structured teams with good standards and practices as well. I wonder if a team that presents what he is looking for on the organization’s front can overcome the current lack of a quarterback.
