No. We should have just given Jimmy his extra year. We can even trade Beal when he’s expiring.

I agree, we should have.

But we didn't, and Jimmy **** up.

I wonder if getttig Beal + 2031 suns pick + 2 or 3 Suns second round picks + Ryan Dunn + Tyus Jones is such a bad deal for us?

Sure Beal is WAY overpaid, but Ryan Dunn can defend, Tyus is a real PG.

We won't have cap space anyway next year, and the yea after that Beal would be an expiring we can trade with assets for a real star

I guess if the 2031 pick is unprotected, it could be salvageable IF Beal could stay healthy and perform even at 80% of his former self AND IF Miami had a second trade lined up where it moved some combo of Rozier/Robinson/Jovic/Richardson (~$50M in salaries) to re-work the roster around Beal-Herro-Adebayo.

Miami is already playing smurf ball and would get even smaller with this Phoenix trade.

Setting aside Beal's contract, a Herro-Beal backcourt is not going to be any better than the Lillard-McCollum or Wall-Beal backcourt pairings we've seen in the past. It's really hard to justify dealing for Beal, imo.

I still think Miami needs to get a big SF back and get a better defensive guard, like Smart whether in the Butler trade or in a secondary trade.

We have zero reason to trade him to the suns, a team that literally cannot sign him if he hits FA.

The suns only option is to either

A. Send us KD or Booker (which they’re not doing)
B. Find us a good enough deal from a 3rd party

Option C. They send some of their pretty assets to another team for more draft capital including more first round picks to sweeten the pot for the Beal deal, should we and Beal agree to it. We need to be compensated for sending them Butler, and then compensated for swallowing the Beal deal.

Butler is acting a clown. If we do not choose to send him there, he can sign with them for the vet minimum next offseason.

Yup, and it's not our job to help the Sun's trade Beal. As far as Jimmy goes, we can tell him that he's not getting traded to the Suns and better consider another team. Otherwise he can play off the bench, ten minutes a night, joylessly. He wants to make our lives miserable? Well screw with him. Who's going to extend him when he's averaging 3.2 ppg playing 10 minutes a night?

Screw him

I am getting to the same point you are on that screw Jimmy front.

When you trade a player, it comes with certain contract flexibility...right? Like the other team can go over cap to sign an extension?

It should be real easy for the Heat to take the high road, and try and get Jimmy somewhere he can maximize what is left of his earning potential.

If the Suns want him, and he wants the Suns....then that is on them to sell that to Miami.

I just do not see any down side to Miami, it would be very easy to explain to the common fan..."hey...we can't take back Beal's non-tradable contract and surround Bam and Tyler with the talent we want,"

Simple as that.

Maybe Miami needs to just come right out and say " Unless the Suns come up with a better offer, we are prepared to just ride out JB contract and let him hit Free agency so he can choose his next destination"

Let Jimmy deal with what that will do to his future earnings.

People convincing themselves now that Jimmy should have been extended or to take Beal? Come on. Snap out of it!

Jimmy is not worth an extension. How will you all feel when he misses another 10+ games due to injury and possibly the playoffs?

Meanwhile Beal makes as much as Jimmy, misses games like Jimmy, doesn’t play defense when he does play and plays the same position as Herro.

Jimmy’s time here ran its course last season. Should have gotten rid of him before the draft. If he can’t be traded now then the next best course of action is to just let him leave on his own. Not hoping to mend fences to give an extension he can’t live up to or taking Beal.

This all sound nice until you really think about it. Jimmy will just opt in and get 50+ mil from us next year. Thats not a good move for us. I dont have the answer but that would be close to worst case scenario because not only is it another year of this mess, we also play the tax and again nothing good can come from it PR wise. What star player is going to be like yeah I want to play for this team? Yeah I want to leave money on the table to come to a team like this?

Kid has legit talent, he won't be that good on higher volume but he'll be decent enough.

Seeing teams driving into our paint only to see him there and backing out is a sight for sore eyes.

The issue is that we won't have a backup center when Ware sits, which means more defensive minutes for KLove. We've managed to address the non-Bam defensive challenges with Ware coming off the bench. I hope Spo continues with the effective Ware-Jovic bench combo that's been working well.

The guys are ready for Jimmy to be packed up, probably just want the distraction out of the way and also see who the reinforcements are. Get this done asap, if he’s still here after his suspension send him home with pay. There’s no reason at all for someone to be playing games for us if they’re not apart of our future and he’s already shown he’ll sell out his teammates and throw games.
