Jaden Springer for Daniel Theis
Doesn't get any simpler than that.
New Orleans gets a young player with RFA rights to develop in a rebuilding year.
Boston moves on from the cost it took to bring in and develop Springer and lands a vet back up big man, to replace Xavier Tillman who just hasn't been right for some reason this year.

NOP is going to want to duck the tax.
Right now all they probably have to do is dump their 15th man.
This trade makes it a lot more complicated honestly.

Re: Jaden Springer for Daniel Theis
Love Theis even as just a towel waiver and would give Springer away for free since Joe can't/won't find any minutes for him in his system, so think it's a slam dunk for the C's as they can save a ton of tax money.
I think Brad would probably kick in one of Bostons 2030/2031 2nds to get it done based on how much money ownership would save by swapping Springer's $4m contract for Theis at $2m.
Not sure the Pelicans would have any interest. They're taking on $2m of extra money and Springer's RFA status isn't really relevant since he'll be signing a minimum contract when this one ends no matter where he ends up. He definitely has more potential than Theis who is closer to the end of his NBA career than the start, so maybe they'd take the "free" flyer, but I could see them rather just having a cheap able bodied big man instead.

Re: Jaden Springer for Daniel Theis
There's a dozen teams that could take Springer for free, maybe one of them would be interested in making this a three team swap with both Boston and NO kicking in some cash to cover Springer's salary for the rest of the year?
Basically:
NO out: Theis, cash
NO in: top-55 protected 2nd round pick
BOS out: Springer, cash
BOS in: Theis
Team X out: top-55 protected 2nd round pick
Team X in: Springer, cash

BOS out: Springer, cash

Ah I was lazy and didn’t look that part up. So it would only work subsequent to other moves or as part of a three team trade like described by gsw above. Interesting.

I love Theis as a dude, but I’m more a believer in Tillman re-finds his game than that Theis can be worth a playoff roster space, esp. at Theis age and current game. If there’s nothing else doing, I’d be fine with it for the savings and vibes, but I’d rather deal Springer into capspace with a distant 2nd attached or find another use for that $4 million. I’m kinda “that ship sailed” on Theis.

No this doesn't work, pelicans is at 14 man, so they need to backfill for theis anyway to reach 14 man. dumping theis does nothing.

Ahh well then scratch that idea. Boston should still probably try to find someone to eat Springer+cash for nothing though.

Why would you think this? He is going to be non tendered and a UFA. He hasn't shown much at all to think teams would be lining up just to eat his contract. There might be one or two at most but I have my doubts any team does it with out incentive (which the cash might be enough), but dozens is not realistic.

Celts can not add cash to a trade because of 2nd apron, so no cash option here

He’s clearly saying capable, not necessarily eager.
At any rate one of the best run franchises in the league thought he was worth second round value last year and he’s still young enough so it’s also not obvious he’s a pariah either.

Yeah I have really no opinion on Springer as a player/prospect, just saying that with the new rules it's significantly easier mechanically than it was in the past to move a small contract for cap space.
Boston not being able to send cash makes it tougher for sure, they might have to pony up a 2nd round pick (which would be well worth it given the cap/tax savings).

What the point of saying capable, it adds nothing to the discussion. Like there are 29 teams that capable of trading for Butler, does that need to be pointed out?
At this point he likely gets a one year min contract next season to see if he has any untapped potential. He is not going to be in any kind of high demand, sure a team likely takes him with a 2nd as a dump if they have a roster spot open. The Celtics don't have some magical Midas touch that makes players they traded for maintain or increase their value, but thanks for the laugh.

I think Murray has already missed most of his incentives for this year, so they’re only ~$800k from the tax? If it’s close enough, I think they could deal Theis out, do the whole 2 weeks at 13, sign a ten day, 2 more weeks at 13, and then sign a prorated minimum and come out under the tax, with 14 signed?

What exactly didn't I comprehend? He said a bunch of teams are capable of trading for Springer for free, I pointed out that was really an irrelevant statement since no teams likely will.
