I"m coming around on the idea of Vrabel, to the point where I don't think it would be wise to just rush into hiring BJ. I've read one NE writer say the Pats are leery of hiring another rookie HC, and might prefer Vrabel over BJ more for that reason than the Patriots connection. There's a lot to be said for a HC who has won Super Bowls, comes from a franchise with a tradition like the Pats, and who would really set a tone in the locker room. Demarcus Walker, who played one year under Vrabel at TEN, mentioned that there is a lot of nonsense going on with the Bears players right now- lack of discipline; not doing things the right way, not being held accountable, that would all end if someone like Vrabel were the new HC.

You could probably say the same about Carroll.

Kevin Byard has spoken glowingly about Vrabel as well. Bears brass has very good sources (Byard, D Evans, D Walker) if they want to know exactly how Vrabel coaches. On Vrabel's positive side, he wasn't a big fan of N Davis. I am a Vrabel fan because I watched him coach a generally crap roster into a respectable team.

fwiw - N Moreano talked to Chad Morton (Bears RB coach) who worked with P Carroll for 10 years and he said... “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s amazing. I’ve said this to multiple people, I said I wish everybody could at least coach or play for him at like one point in their life......He’s just an elite leader, teacher, motivator. You know, he could do a masterclass on that stuff. He’s that good....."

Regarding Vrabel, I think if the Bears were serious about getting him, or if they thought they had an even chance, they wouldn’t have brought him in on a zoom call with 15 squares to speak to. He would have been brought in to look at the facility, which is better than New Englands (currently). He would have been brought in to establish a human connection eye to eye with Warren and Poles. I don’t know what the Raiders are doing, but I would guess that the Bears think Tom Brady has an advantage over them as well as NE.

If they weren't interested in him, why would they even do that? And maybe that's the way Vrabel wanted it, too- so both sides could judge if a more prolonged visit (and plane trip) were worth doing. Don't always assume the worst of the Bears.

It’s my understanding that the vast majority of the interviews that are taking place right now (at this phase) are virtual. And I think that applies to a lot of the teams in search of HCs. Logistically, it’s simply easier for the candidates that are up for multiple positions.

There’s the clear deck to go along with Jacksonville for a coach that wants to come in fresh with their own guy. Tom Brady pulling out the stops. I don’t have a great outlook for his chances, you never know. The bloodthirsty-ness is a good look. Can the Bears compete in a brawl here. Let’s see.

I fully expect Cunningham to get the top job somewhere and quickly establish himself as one of the best GMs in the league because that would be the most Bears thing ever. Remember, he was the one sitting next to Poles telling him he didn’t need to trade up for Odunze.
