Hypothetical: Raps land 3rd pick - Who you choosing?

Post#1 » by ImaBeatDatAzz » Thu Jan 9, 2025 5:17 pm

From the draft thread (and everywhere else) it’s clear that Flagg and Harper are the consensus 1 and 2. After that it gets pretty tricky with the third pick

Knowing our luck and the NBA’s vendetta against us (lol), let’s say we at least land the #3 pick.. i’m curious who most of you would pick with that, and comment your main reason(s) why.

Just take in what we have seen from these prospects so far

My personal pick: JK because I feel like he has the highest floor (least amount of red flags). So I feel like you can’t go wrong with him. The only con with him is fit

This is easy to me; Ace is the 3rd overall pick. Regardless of his metrics, the kid is the most talented out of the remaining players. You work on that talent and hope for the best. Ace fits next to Barnes extremely well; guy is not shy to shoot the shot, while Barnes prefers to set players up. We also have too many small guards in the development pipeline already; I prefer we get some size on this team.

I really like fears too. Still feel like JK is the safer option at #3

This is the spot I don't want to land TBH, everything will be workout/combine-dependent. As of now, I'd lean Fears/JK, BUT I'm truly hoping Ace can pick it up, because I wouldn't feel good drafting him today.

And what do you think about Edgecomb? If we land #3, I have a feeling that he just screams Masai’s pick lol

Ace or Jak I’d be pretty happy with. Both have problems for us (Jak size/defense and yet another shooting guard, Ace lack of play making/downhill offense and can his tough shot making translate against NBA defenders).

Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

I don't think VJ is top 3 worthy pick right now. I can see 4-7 range, and even then there'll be plenty of risers as the seasons come to a close. I love the stocks, but don't like the handle and jumper.

I wouldn't be mad at the pick. But If we miss out on the top 2, I'm going for the highest ceiling/scorer potential left available.

Not seeing the defensive upside as compare to Fears, but also may need to wait for the measurement of Fears.

One reason I may not draft Fears is that if we draft Xaivian Lee in the 2nd round.

I don't feel good about Ace. His true shooting percentage is going to likely be below 50% at the end of the season, the passing numbers suck, and he hasn't been great on defense.

The stats are incredibly bad.

PER FORTY MINUTES: 0.8 ASSISTS

He's barely shooting 33% from 3pt range and 55% on free throws.

I can already call him being a scrub that should drop in the draft.

The answer is Jakucionis. He doesn't have elite defense so we'd have to trade Barrett or IQ, potentially both, down the road. But I'd be open to that if it gets us a star player. There would be another issue with him and Gradey.

Edgecombe sucks on offense, my question is what the hell he'sbeen working on up to this point in his life. His handles, shot, and finishing ability sucks. Maybe he wasn't in the AAU program or had bad coaches early in his career?

Fears sucks at shooting and he'll have difficulty finishing in the NBA due to his stature and size. His offense will have him relying more on shooting.

Most of you have probably heard of Ace and Edgecombe but for those that don't follow college basketball or haven't been keeping up with this year's prospects, here's Kasparas Jakucionis (the biggest riser of this class):

Kasp has the higher IQ and is a good shooter..he’s even a good on-ball shooter. That’s a good combination to have. High IQ archetypes with efficient scoring, but questionable athleticism/physique often get underrated - Marc Gasol, Jokic, Doncic, Sengun, Sabonis

It would probably be Jakucionis or Maluach for me.

Jak is awesome in his own right - he is my #4th overall pick. Definitely will not complain if we draft him, but I just think Ace has a higher ceiling with his size and skill; a real gamble for sure.

If we can trade IQ for an Orlando big + 1st round picks and draft Labaron with Orlando’s pick, I wonder how a Labaron + Kasp pairing would do.
