I’m still a fan of Poles but this makes so much sense lol if we did this I wouldn’t be mad lol

George McCaskey’s “vertical structure” will remain. They know what they’re doing.

Starting out fresh with a new GM and HC makes plenty of sense philosophically. With that said, I don’t know that it’s the ONLY way to establish a cohesive relationship between the two parties. Especially if the current GM and the new HC establish a great rapport from the onset. And unless the GM and coach have a relationshop prior to joining a new organization in their respective roles, the circumstances could still feel like somewhat of an arrangement. Would you agree?

Darnell Wright finished the year as a top 5 right tackle after that clustorphucc of a year.

Kudos to him and Poles

The whole aligning the two is overstated. As much as we hate to admit it, football teams are alot like Corporate America. When a company hires a new CFO, they don't get rid of the CTO and Head of HR to say we cleaned house and created alignment. That's one of the worst ways to do it.

According to who? That's good news in any case. At least we have one top level lineman.

We should know if Johnson is our guy by Monday. I'm guessing the teams interested in him will offer a deal after the first interview this weekend. Waiting another few weeks for a 2nd interview might be too late.

I don’t think we know him well enough to offer him the job after one zoom meeting. And we can’t do in person for weeks. In which case, a ton of candidates will be gone. vrabel committing so soon actually hurts us imo.

Given how expected this was, I doubt that it hurts us. Most of the interest in Vrabel was likely token interest at best. Same thing applied to Harbaugh last offseason. Nobody knew…but everybody KNEW….

Yeah I don't think a zoom meeting is enough to make that decision. I think both sides would want a longer time to discuss expectations, goals, plans, philosophies, etc. to make sure it's a good fit. And I'd want to meet in person before making that decision. But who knows? Maybe Johnson is really interested in the Bears, and they really want him and that's all it will take is a 1 hour zoom meeting.

The more I look into the offensive lineman for the upcoming the draft the more I’m impressed. Specially OT. The kid from Arizona looks like a menace. My concern with him is that word he be able to make the switch to full time LT. As of two my OT rankings would be

1. Josh Simmons
2. Kelvin Banks
3. Emery Jones
4. Jonah Savaiinaea
5. Aireontae Ersery
Honorable mention: Grey Zabel. I like most everything I see from him but his competition level gives me some pause.

If jones and savaiiaea were primarily LTs I think they’d be in consideration for being the first OL taken.

My do not drafts are will campbell and josh conerly. Campbell doesn’t really impress me with anything he does. From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t have any great attributes. No elite footwork or quickness or anything. Savaiinaea, for example, has very violent and active hands. He’s very good at chopping rushers arms down and then finishing them to the ground. Campbell hasn’t shown anything you can single out like that. And it looks like he’s moving at a walkthrough pace. Maybe it’s just that easy to him, but I think historically, that has lead to underperforming in the nfl.

As for conerly, I think his biggest strength is the type of offense he plays in. I think it benefits him greatly. Hes often slow out of his stance, late to his blocking assignments on the second level, I’ve seen him get pushed back somewhat often. I think he’s 100% someone who needs time to get good on the nfl level,nd I don’t think that’s the right path for us.

The Combine and individual workouts will tell Poles a lot. The only LT I've watched many times is Kelvin Banks from Texas. If he's on the board that's the guy I'd like to get. In fact I'd like to draft 3 of the Texas offensive linemen, Banks, Jake Majors and Cameron Williams who I'd put at Right guard.

I like Jonah Savaiineaa's size. And if Josh Simmons checks out medically he might be the best LT prospect out of the bunch. But I'd want medical personnel to really check on his injured knee.

Pretty good game last night. The Penn State QB blew the game throwing INTs. I thought Nick Singleton put on a good performance. He's the RB I'd like to draft with our 3rd round pick. He's got size, speed and is a good receiver as well. He'd be a really good 3 down RB, Really good athlete. And Abdul Carter showed why he's high on the draft boards. Even with an injured shoulder he was getting after it. He's going to be a really good EDGE rusher. But he'll be gone before we draft at # 10.

now that the carter pipe dream is dead, i think i'm settling on james pearce jr. as my favorite DE target if we end up sticking at 10. even if he leans toward the one-dimensional side, he's the best pure pass rusher who could plausibly be available, and that's something the bears badly need. (plus from what i've watched/read he's not even necessarily a liability in the run game)

mike green is also a guy i'm interested in who could be available with our second rounders — definitely seems higher upside than the EDGE prospects you'd usually see in that range

i am also going to go out on a limb and say that kelvin banks's stock drops at least a little bit between now and the draft as people get a chance to really dig into his tape / get up-to-date intel from actual nfl scouts.

i've seen a lot of good analysts who say he's got the tools to be very good but are kind of skeptical of how much he's actually shown on the field — supposedly texas's offense makes it pretty easy on the o-line by running a lot of quick game and max protect, and he was shaky against the very good georgia d-line. still might be a reasonable top-15 pick, but i also wouldn't be surprised if he ended up like the third or fourth OL off the board

His contract apparently has an out until June. But the Raiders approached him and he said he's not interested and sticking with UNC.
