Trading Fox? Follow the rules...!
So I want to experiment with an idea. Let's see how good everyone at following the rules to this exercise.
Lets say the Kings are looking to trade Fox but it's not for a rebuild or a reset. It's for a retool to balance the roster.
Ignore salary constraints(within reason) not worried about a coupe million here or there.
Give me a scenario where you propose trading a 3/4, 4/3, 4/5, 5/4 position player. Needs to be a true forward and_or center. No wingmen. No combo guards. No point guards no guards period.
So two rules:
1) Plays forward and/or Center(never plays guard)
2) one single best player
So following those 2 rules who do you propose for Fox that will make the Kings bite.
Have fun.

Kings get Davis
Kings give Fox
Kings add Davis defense next to Sabonis
Monk, Ellis, DeMar, Davis, Sabonis -- Carter, Huerter, Murray, Lyles, Len
Lakers get Fox, Kessler
Lakers give Davis, JHS, LAL27FRP(unprotect existing top 4), LAL29FRP
Lakers switch to Fox, Reaves, DFS, LeBron, Kessler -- Christie, Knecht, Rui, Vando, Wood
Younger and more sustained competing long term.
Jazz get JHS, LAL27FRP(unprotect existing top 4), LAL29FRP(top 10 protected)
Jazz give Kessler
Picks package for Kessler with an expiring JHS who they had interest in.

If It didn't matter for either team and I think both teams might even do this for real, I said might LOL
Kings In: Lauri Markkanen
Kings Out: De'Aaron Fox
Jazz Out: Lauri Markkanen
Jazz In: De'Aarton Fox.
Straight up can't work for real, but something like a 2 for one can work.
Kings front court = Sabonis/Lauri - Inside outside game

I couldn't work out the values but if Kings owe an FRP then they can send it to Utah as part of this deal. Lakers won't send theirs in 2029.

You can't get a dollar by trading 5 quarters in the NBA. The Lakers just aren't going to have much interest in trading AD at all, I don't think 'what if I throw in another 1st' is going to help. What's the point in getting Fox is AD if leaving as a result.

We already have one of those guys on our team in DeRozan so let’s not act like it’s some foreign concept to this team.

For what it’s worth, I seem to be one of the few Kings fans on here that would actually prefer to hold onto Fox. There seems to be many “trade Fox, keep Monk” fans around here which I think would be a mistake.
My “Plan A” would be to trade Huerter for a frontcourt player who makes a similar amount but does not expire at the deadline (e.g., Zach Collins, Tobias Harris, Kyle Kuzma, etc.). That frees up minutes for Carter while helping bolster our frontcourt depth to end the season. During the 2025 off-season, I’d go after Markkanen by offering Monk (rerouted to a 3rd team with assets going back to UTA), whoever we traded Huerter for, and 1st round picks. If we resign Lyles, that leaves us with a roster of…
PG - Fox / Carter
SG - Ellis / Jones
SF - Murray / DeRozan
PF - Markkanen / Lyles
C - Sabonis
- We’d finally have a full sized starting lineup that can matchup well with any team
- Fox, Ellis, & Carter gives us great/elite POA defense all game long while still having Murray to utilize as a great wing/forward defender
- Sabonis, Markkanen, and Murray is an excellent rebounding frontcourt (not to mention Carter is a terrific rebounder for his position)
- Ellis, Murray (assuming he bounces back after he heals), and Markkanen would be excellent floor spacing making it easier for Fox and Sabonis to score in the paint.
- They’d maintain having 4 solid go-to scorers to lean on during games (Fox, DeRozan, Markkanen, Sabonis) who all play different positions and score in different ways
- DeRozan would be one of the better 6th men in the league and help carry the bench

AD is 31 with a pretty serious injury history. He's in his 13th season. Fox is 27 and has been relatively healthy. I think you're way off if Fox agrees to extend.

If you trade AD then the team gets worse, then Lebron likely leaves. So now you've got a late 20s Fox, but with a worse team around him than the Kings have. Why does Fox want that, if he's after a contender? Why do the Lakers want a late 20s guard who relies in his athleticism, when he won't be enough to make the team good and will be gone by the time the Lakers are good again?

While it fits the rules of the trade parameters. I don't think the Kings would want to make that deal.

That might be so with AD, but his doing extremely well last year and this year in regards to Injury, maybe bron giving him his secrets

This Is another reason I want Kessler on the Lakers can push AD to the 4 spot (post Bron) and AD doesn't have to play the 5 spot 24/7.
None the less, you don't trade AD for Fox, because what's the point In trading for Fox if no AD. ... If I'm trading for Fox then I'm trading the farm for him; Reaves, Max, Knecht and what ever to get the trade done to the duo of AD/FOX.

Because they get younger, they get a backcourt match with Reaves, they get Kessler as a big. So now their search is for a star wing once LeBron leaves.

They're not going to blow up their current big name team in the hope of being a worse version of the Kings. They'd be younger in a way that was meaningless.

Re: Trading Fox? Follow the rules...!
Maybe something this summer like:
Minnesota: Fox
Sac: Extended Naz Reid + McDaniels + Dillingham
Washington: Huerter + 3 2nds from SAC
Sabonis/2025 1st
Naz Reid/DeMar
Murray/McDaniels
Monk/Ellis
Dillingham/Carter
Plan is probably to wait until Demar is expiring and move him and picks for someone better and younger in Sabonis' final prime years.
and Wolves save enough money to keep NAW and stay under the 2nd apron, though not the first. Have to get lucky on a minimum center playing 15 minutes a night (or move DDV for one since Edwards will play 40 a night a the 2 in the playoffs and Shannon or a shooter off the street can cover 8 minutes if you can't afford to slid NAW there due to the lack of SF depth), but they have the best guard combo in the league, Gobert at the rim, 2 competent starting forwards and DDV on the bench.
Gobert - (Minimum)
Randle- Minott or Miller
NAW - DDV
Edwards - DDV
Fox - Conley
or if DDV is dealt for say Goga Bitadze as an example because Orlando needs shooting and Gobert will age slower if he's playing less minutes:
Gobert - Bitadze
Randle- Miller
NAW - Minott
Edwards - Shannon
Fox - Conley
Very young bench, but those young guys have some promise and Conley might be okay for one final year if he's playing 12 minutes a night only against backups. Good draft year, so maybe a couple undrafted free agents isn't the end of the world, teams like Tennessee, Auburn and Houston are all top 5 and have competent undrafted guys who play D and can hit a 3, might not kill you playing 15 minutes a night when someone is injured.
