Re: The Official Rudy Gobert Thread
I was looking into the specifics of Rudy’s extension, and I thought I’d point out some things that people might not know.
Rudy turned down a $46.7 mil extension for a three year deal of $35, $36.5, and $38.
The final season is a player option
The deal has a 7.5% trade kicker
Signing the extension means Rudy is ineligible to be traded until this summer.
Taking less, the player option and the kicker, all indicate Rudy wants to be in Minnesota, and have more control that he stays here.

This, plus I would bet Rudy was given some assurance by the FO that he won’t be traded without his consent. It’s obviously not formal, but I do think that those kinds of promises are expected in an extension like this with a home town discount.

For anyone wondering what a bad Rudy game looks like for the team without a backup C. Look at the NYK game from yesterday and realize, that is what it will always look like. You win at the 1 and 5. Our 1 and 5 got destroyed last night and we lost on national tv at home by 30.

I agree. And will add that a Rudy injuries send us on the lottery 1st group which will be great for the Jazz

I agree with that. Rudy did not regress for me, just the fitting with Randle is awful. Even if it seems a bit better last games.

Yes it's one clip, but it's eye test to confirm what the numbers say...that Gobert is having his best passing season since 2018-19.

I’m sure Rudy loves being just ahead of Jordan, until he sees who he is just behind.
1. Bill Russell
2. Hakeem Olajuwon
3. Tim Duncan
4. Kevin Garnett
5. Dennis Rodman
6. Scottie Pippen
7. Ben Wallace
8. Dikembe Mutombo
9. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
10. Dwight Howard
11. Wilt Chamberlain
12. David Robinson
13. Draymond Green
14. Rudy Gobert
15. Michael Jordan

With Wemby out, could Gobert win the DPOY again? Five times would be a record - he, Mutombo and Ben Wallace have four.
After Wemby, the top 5 in D LEBRON. Sorted for players with at least 1500 minutes.
Gobert
Zubac
Allen
Thompson
Daniels
Edit Mobley is only at 1441 minutes but would rank right between Thompson and Daniels.

Probably not. I'd say our record and Defensive Rating work against him this year. I think we'd need to be close to last year's record and defense for it to happen.

He needs to play like Superman for the remainder of the season to win DPOY or play on the Suns team so he stands out. Suns would love to get him for Beal right now as they have zero interior defense.

After the next two weeks, we will be playing a lot of tanking teams. I think there will be several games where we hold opponents under 100, if our team shows up and locks in (no guarantee there). I would not be surprised to see us win 10 in a row, and our team’s DRtng to climb to #2. Whether that would be enough to change the narrative, we’ll have to wait and see,

Re: The Official Rudy Gobert Thread
"We've gone fifty-something games without our starting center. Guys have done a really good job stepping in. Could we do better? I always believe we can do better."- Tom Thibodeau on Mitchell Robinson. That is also telling about where Towns fit the best, so don't tell me Gobert can't play with Towns

Feel like I probably missed it...how did Gobert get injured ? I thought he was just missing the last game prior to ASB as it was a B2B game but its strange that he hasn't played a single minute since then. Is the injury serious than what they thought initially ?

Back spasms. Finch said he could be back soon. Not sure when but wouldn’t surprise me if it was end of the week or next week.
