Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves - Part 8
If I'm Houston, seeing as how they got beat soundly by Boston and are going to miss Smith for the next 4-6 weeks, I would seriously consider a Jimmy Butler trade. Something like Brooks, Adams and Tate works under the trade checker. Add in a pick and possibly a swap, and I think they should take it. Houston tacks on another year on Butler's deal as he picks up his player option and he's a happy camper.

That might go down as one of the biggest disasters in trade NBA history.FAH1223 wrote:

I love that the Thunder and Cavs sit atop their perspective conferences, no super team assemblage, which may be a problem for Skelator to market should they reach the finals.

Watching last night, it feels like OKC needs another dude. I'm not really sure who or what that guy is, possibly another shot creator because its really Shai and no one else. A Collin Sexton/Anfernee Simons type, someone of that ilk.

OKC just needs Chet back. They are pretty loaded. Caruso is out too.

Might be a dude we could actually swipe tbh. They are loaded with talent and they really don't have minutes to be developing some of these dudes.
I have to say I don't envy many teams right now. Talent is very high around the league, but it just feels like it's hard to make a deal to improve your team given cap restraints. I really have to give credit to the Knicks on how they turned things around. Almost purely free agency driven on non star talent and some savvy trades.

What I’d like to swipe from OKC is one of the 3 FRPs they have in the 2025 draft. I think the third one might be available for the 2029 FRP we got from Portland.

Hey Nate: Will you very kindly weigh in on this -- both the trade & its implications? Thanks!

Utah is tripling down on the basic argument against the PIF method. That is: the players who have the biggest effect on the game are most often found at the very top of the draft. That a single high pick rewards you more regularly than a scattershot of later picks spread over a few years. Given limited roster size and minutes to develop young players you are better off trading up for that one guy. Our FO has followed this method in a lesser way, trading away 2nd rounders to rise a few spots in a single draft. Ainge's group is just making a louder public gamble on the same thing. One Wemby is worth billions of dollars to a franchise over his career compared to any number of role players selected further down. Swings and misses. Or base hits.
With the flattened odds at the top this is less of a gamble than it might be. You are banking on PHX being one of the 4 worst teams on that year. Out of 30 or 32 teams depending on if the league expands. Pretty good bet. Which is why I am happy the Wizards got in early on this strategy, investing heavy on pick swaps as well as that 1st rounder. Fair guess that the next CBA will try to protect against this Phoenix strategy.
Here Utah already has a mess of young players to develop. Like what, 8 players on rookie contracts? At some point maybe they get good. You have to pay them all, and suffer their growing pains. But it is tough to get good if you are constantly in the business of teaching young players. Utah is sure to get high picks this year and next, then, if Ainge follows his previous pattern, he will trade picks/players for stars to build a team, and take a break from NBA preschool for a while. Consolidating those picks means he doesn't have to find playtime for remedial players until he can get an exceptional one further down the line.

I like this idea. No doubt we'd have to give something else as well. Maybe one of the 2 R2 picks that came in the Deni trade? or one of our 3 R2 picks next year?

Well the price for an unprotected future first has pretty much been set.payitforward wrote:DCZards wrote:Dark Faze wrote:

3 protected or stipilationed picks for 1 future unprotected first. It would be fine for us to flip that Portland first in this manor. Might be able to get more because we aren't desperate and teams with all these meh firsts might need to unload them fast.
