Bradley Beal Would Have More Trade Value If Next Team Didn't Contend With No-Trade Clause

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:05 pm

Bradley Beal hasn't been as effective of a player since being traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2023 and he has continued to have injury issues, but he remains an effective player on the floor despite the $110 million he is owed over the next two seasons. Beyond the money, Beal's no-trade clause is impacting his trade value for the Suns as much as anything.

One executive told ESPN that Beal would be a more attractive trade candidate if teams considering acquiring him now had the ability to trade him again without his consent at a later date. As Beal's contract gets closer to expiring, these issues will all become less severe to deal with.

"He's a bad contract," the executive said, "but not immovable, if the team that's getting him knows they could also trade him later."

Because Beal is one of two players in the NBA with a no-trade clause, the Suns can't even credibly consider their trade options unless they know there's a reasonable chance he will waive it. Agent Mark Bartelstein has been clear that Beal will maintain his no-trade clause in the future even if he's traded by the Suns.

Phoenix has attempted to determine whether any teams would be interested in acquiring Beal as part of a deal where there trade for Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat.

Lol at he’s a bad contract. Every contract is a bad contract unless it’s LeBron, Steph, KD.
Not one other player in the league deserves a max contract.

Giannis obviously

That’s debatable.
No one really says they wanna play with Giannis

It really has nothing to do with wins and losses. A player is worth a max contract if they sell merch and fill the stands. As the lone star in WAS, Beal earned his keep. Lebron and Steph aren't winning much more than Beal did in WAS, but they are selling merch and filling seats. I wonder if PHX would suffer financially if KD left; Booker is more of a fan favorite.

From a financial perspective, every team needs a player to hang on the side of their arenas. If your best player is Kyle Kuzma, Jerami Grant or Zach LaVine you over pay them and hang there pic on billboards around town. If you act like you have a star to believe in most fans will believe. You don't think the Jazz really believe Lauri Markkanen is really worth $50m on the court, do you? Even a HOF player like Lillard was never going to be the best player on a championship team, but he sure paid his way in POR.

Beal clearly isn't selling merch or filling seats in PHX, and he replaceable on the court.... but he could potentially sell merch and fill seats in another location. I don't know where that might be, but it's possible.

Jokic is a bad contract? I think everyone would disagree... Luka a bad contract I bet every team would disagree.. A bad contract is one that can't be moved without giving up assests.. There are players that fall into that category.. Most on larger contracts but some even on smaller long term ones..

Yes.
They play no defense and no one cares to play with them or in their city.
You obviously have to do it if you want a chance, because someone else will do it. But the truth is they’re all overpaid.
It’s similar to a simp and women. If you want a 9 or a 10 you have to pay the price otherwise some guy is gonna give her whatever she wants because he has money and can’t get women without it. Once you stop paying her asking price she’s leaving for the man who’s willing to pay.
That doesn’t mean she’s worth it.
