I thought he was just average. He did end up with nice stats. He wasn't strong around the rim, just got some easy buckets. He made the shots he had to make, lets just say that but any distance away from the basket he didn't look comfortable.

I can’t imagine he sticks around 5 years for that? Two years on a two way and then he’s going to need a big league spot, or he’s statistically close to done in the nba, for at least a while?

I was thinking age could catch tj sooner than 5 years. If not, I agree

Watched today's Mad Ants game again this morning.

G League is kinda fun to watch, i havent really watched a lot of it but enjoyed it these two games. Mathias can really shoot. This game was a game of two halves. First half Mad Ants got to a huge lead, couldn't miss 3s, i think they shot something likr 13/20 at half time from three. Second half when 3s werent going in, they really didnt know what to do. Okafor bailed them out a few times by the rim after long stretches of not scoring. I thought Okafor was their best player today, finished with 23 points and 8 rebounds.

Newton was off, he struggled with his shot all game and missed some layups.

I thought Quenton Jackson had a nice finish, took control of the game. Mad Ants led by like 30 and at one point it was a tied game with a few minutes left thats when Okafor and Jackson took over and scored on a few possessions.

Freeman i thought was awful. Some bad turnovers, he was trying to dribble past a kid by half court, lost control of it and gave up a breakaway dunk. 4-9 shooting and 0-2 from 3PT. Finished with 11 rebounds but had many missed opportunities.

Overall, there was no reason for the comeback because there was several times Mad Ants had a 3 on 1 or a 3 on 2 and elected to shoot the 3 instead of what most likely wouldve been a easy 2. Guess live and die with what you do best but second half it seemed like the court was tilted and they couldve just been smarter and put the fire out. Anyways win is a win. Winter showcase was cool to watch.

The Mad Ants who weren’t good enough to make the tournament played another consolation game today against another similar opponent to finish the showcase in Orlando with 2 wins.

The Westchester Knicks won the championship game (rightfully so)as they’re loaded with a mix of 2024 draftees and 3 nba experienced players.

T.J. Warren 24 points
Moses Brown 14 points and 16 rebounds :o
Tyler Kolek 22 points and 11 assists
Chuma Okeke
Pacome Dadiet
Ariel Hukporti
I didn’t recognize 2 undrafted players who also contributed 16 points apiece
Donovan Williams and Damion Baugh.

I'm not familiar with the G League nor the Winter showcase. I'll probably watch a whole lot of the Mad Ants when their arena is build, something about them having their own facility intrigues me.

So the winter showcase is the top 8 teams? Rest play in scrimmages type and then after the season starts from scratch again?

Wow. And Moses Brown. Damn.

Last note i will say, it was nice to see Okafor have the game he did today and Friday (i didnt think he was that good friday but finished with decent numbers) but after the game they interviewed him on nbatv and he mentioned last year he tore his achilles last year at the winter showcase. Nice rebound for him, physically and mentally.

From the G league website.

Beginning Friday, Nov. 8, the league’s 31 teams will be separated into four regional pods and will play 14 games against one another in NBA G League markets. The teams with the best winning percentage in each regional pod, along with the next four teams across the league with the best winning percentages, will play for the Winter Showcase Championship during the NBA G League Winter Showcase presented by The General Insurance. The remaining teams will each play two games outside of the Showcase Cup Tournament during the event.

The Mad Ants weren’t in the top 8 in the preseason pod play so they played 2 games outside of the winter showcase tournament 8 teams.

I didn’t remember the following.

Following the NBA G League Winter Showcase presented by The General Insurance, team records will reset and the 34-game regular season will tip off on Friday, Dec. 27, bringing each team’s total games played to 50.

this could have been simply because Pacer injuries kept our two-way players and our rookie from playing G League games. Carlisle recently apparently said they had planned on Furphy playing 40 G League games.

I suppose if they really want to elevate Okafor they could waive JJ but they did chose to sign Bryant over Okafor.

My feelings are with yours. The trade for Bryant tells me Okafor isn’t at the level yet that the Pacers desired for a backup center.

I’m with you guys. I believe that Okafor is injury insurance for the Pacers. It’s good for both player & team. He has a chance to get an opportunity, & the team has a bit of security.

For me, I don’t think he gets a call up otherwise. His game (old school, post up, offensive Center, doesn’t really have the footwork to defend the rim well, doesn’t shoot the 3, doesn’t pass well enough to distribute from the post) doesn’t really fit well with the Pacers. It would overlap a bit with Pascal.

Having said that, he does try hard. He is by all accounts a good teammate. The kinda guy you root for & hope he does get a shot with a team that could suit him longer term?

I think Okafor is a steady vet that was signed to solidify the Mad Ants lineup. I don’t think he has any angle or impact on an NBA roster spot. He’s a guy you have an exhibit ten to to play guys like Freeman up against in GLeague practice to get him practice defending in the lane.

Nice timing for Freeman to have a huge game at the time when Turner is sick and he gets 16 minutes in the NBA. Nice way to prepare for his workload he got today.
