This board is so dumb with regards to the last few years, instead of celebrating the fact they fast tracked the rebuild timeline (or skipped it really) and were close to a couple championships, they lament over the fact that they didn't win those championships when they were never supposed to be there in the first place. Also, no credit is given to finding players that fit into the cap (ie undrafted) that bolstered those teams, only bitching about not trading for disgruntled stars even when there are times the league literally steps in to prevent it from happening (Dame).
Actually let me take that back, its not really this board, most of the bitching comes from player first fans with zero loyalty to any team who view everything as transactional. Whores will be whores.
Who’s our player only fans? AirP is the only one that comes to mind
Not sure I don’t lurk/post enough anymore, but it was bad during the LeBron years as well. Even Shaq fans to a lesser degree.
It’s just funny to me because the narrative is always “youre only good because of x player”, and yet the Heat were good before that player and after in almost every case. The only common denominator is Riley, and if you’re a Dolphins or Marlins fan you should know what a huge difference good ownership and management can make vs bad.
So many people here are eager to run Riley and even Spo out of town, its so incredibly shortsighted. Its like they want the Heat to become the Hawks or the Hornets or something, which they were on track to becoming pre Riley. So many don’t even know about the Zo/Timmy years, or dismiss them because no championship.
I think Spoelstra is great, Riley I think has become too conservative in the last decade on how he builds team but he's had a legendary career. This whole run with Butler basically everyone outside of the Heat said the roster was weak (and it was) and instead of doing what Riley used to do, send out picks to get more proven players, he decided to draft 4 straight years while this team needed to strengthen the roster while making the ECF 3 out of 5 years. The only strengthening of the roster happened with low cost (in assets) vets who were nearly done in the NBA. They went to the Finals in 2020 and the very next season they open the season with Mo Harkless as their starting PF and it wasn't because of injuries.
