Butler to Dallas, with LAL?
It’s same same. I don’t actually love the idea, but feel like Dallas needs to make a big move to actually compete with OKC or Boston, or Memphis. This might not be it. But this playoff run would be fun.
Dallas: Gafford, Kleber, Klay, Marshall, Powell, Exum, 2025 Dallas first
Dallas: Butler, Hayes, Klintman, (enough space for two rest of season contracts.)
Assuming the Venetian will spend big for 3 years. Kyrie is paid, Grimes is paid, and you go searching for a couple bench bigs sitting at home / buy out.
LAL: Rui, Vincent, JHS
LAL: Gafford, Alec and Klay
With DFS, Rui can be moved for a strong backup center. Klay will open the floor for AD and LBJ. Alec will provide some decent depth minutes as he always does.
Miami: Butler, Alec
Miami: Rui, Maxi, Vincent, Powell, JHS, 2025 Dallas first
Miami gets what they want. A playable wing, contracts that expire by 2026, and a real first. Check. They do have to buy out/find a home for Richardson and Love. No idea if you can get them under the tax if you move Richardson, Love and JHS for one single true vet min? Seems like it?
Detroit: Klintman
Detroit: Naji and Exum
Detroit use their cap space for a nice rotation forward locked up on a great cheap contract.

I think LAL owes value. I dont think miami agrees to this though/value seems rough and this doesnt help them make playoffs this year

I'm sorry, I know you suggested this change in the other thread and I should have commented on it there, but none of these players even remotely interest me. I think that Dallas package should probably fetch more, and even if that first goes to the third team, for the right player, I'm fine with that.

OP needed to find a second or two to dump JHS and Richardson. Whether it was on Detroit or Washington. So LAL adding that would solve that problem?
Miami part feels a lot better to me trimming 11 million this season..

Rui isn’t very good, but feels like he would be a decent fit for two years.

Okay, and the rest is flotsam. We don't need just a fringe rotation player as the big return for Jimmy.
This is light on value for Miami.
Edit: great sales pitch, btw! He sucks, but not too much for you! Lol

I mean Rui is fine.
Sure Vincent is a negative deal but Miami like him.
Powell is low salary to care.
You get a pick.
The deal is the sort you take when you just want to move on from Butler and nothing better pops up.

I can try a sales pitch. But I really don’t like him. If he was paid 10-12 million, you’d be really happy to have him off the bench.
He is playing 32mpg for another playoff team.. 6’8 forward that is shooting over 40% from three for the second straight year that is not a terrible defender?
Just some felt he would become a good defender or a good enough creator.. But he doesn’t suck.. and he’s a fine stopgap?
If you’d rather Miami flip the Dallas first and don’t want Rui, I assume there’s value enough in Dallas’ package to find someone decent.

It's not, though.
Rui is barely a rotation guy
We didn't like Vincent enough to sign him to that deal
This is the kind of deal you say, "No thanks" to and tell Dallas to find a better return for that package.

Re: Butler to Dallas, with LAL?
Rui starts and plays 32 mpg for a team with a better record in a tougher conference. I mean we can call that barely a rotation guy, but its dishonest AF. And we can't say he wouldn't play for Miami when in the other thread you specifically asked for a PF.

Yeah Miami wanted to do 8m/3 instead of 11m/3 for Vincent.
Rui is strongly a rotation player. He'd be Miami's 3rd or 4th best player after this trade.

Not a fantastic argument, imo. Cleveland has started Dean Wade at power forward for 19 games this season. OKC has started Cason Wallace 22 games this season. Starting on a good team doesn't make the player a viable starter. Miami won a championship against OKC with Joel Anthony starting 51 games that year.
We start Haywood Highsmith at power forward. That doesn't mean he should be a starter. Haywood, like Rui, should be a bench guy. And, given that Haywood is a supremely good defender, and his backup is a developing Jovic who has looked really good, I'm not sure Rui would play for us. I would love an upgrade over Haywood, but that has to come with the defense, as well. I don't see Rui as that guy, do you?

Re: Butler to Dallas, with LAL?
I mean Cason Wallace is a stud. So if you are comparing Rui to him.....
Look you don';t have to like the player. But he's been a rotation player his entire career. Miami doesn't have guys blocking him from minutes so I feel confident he's a rotation player there, especially with Butler's minutes vanishing.
It's just such a hyperbolic take seemingly here to further justify not liking the deal. But its a meh starter, no salary past next year, and a first. Feels like exactly what you have been insisting is all you want. And at the position you want.
But you don't love it, so a 32mpg is barely a rotation player? Why? I don't get it.

Re: Butler to Dallas, with LAL?
I feel like if someone took 20 minutes finding a forward that Gafford, Klay, 2025 first was worth, that is available..
I would probably just want Dallas trade for him and not risk Butler and Luka drinking too many beers together and it ending in a fight.. Or Butler declining, or ownership not being willing to pay anyone else because they have a “big 3”.. etc.

Cavs will gladly trade an expiring LeVert, 2nds, and TT (waive) for Rui.

You don't have to get it. We have to like the fit, don't we? Would you trade for a guy you knew wasn't going to play for you? Spo's not big on using traditional power forwards. He loves small ball guys who can play excellent defense and hit the corner three - Trevor Ariza, Jae Crowder, PJ Tucker, and now Haywood.
Hell, even the OP doesn't like the guy! Why do I have to defend not wanting a guy the OP recognizes "isn't very good"?

Yeah, he isn’t “very good” doesn’t mean he isn’t a rotation piece. He’s a low end starter and has been for a long time.
Again, he’s a big forward that shoots 40% from 3 and doesn’t kill your defense. Some teams would expect a first round pick just for those two things. (Green font)

LA can enjoy him in good health. I just don't see him being a fit, here. If they can get a first for him, they should.
