People make it sound like we were a successful franchise until Thibs ruined everything.

Na people are saying the opposite really. Thibs changed the culture around completely as did Leon n his FO, but we all realize that in order to take that next step, we have to go in a different direction with the coaching. Same situation as the Warriors with Mark Jackson. We just need to find that Steve Kerr type..

Let me spin it like this instead… give Thibs a promotion… make him a VP in the FO, and go get a new coach :D

Phil tried to get Kerr himself and turned us down. He was too scared to come to the unhinged fans and bright lights. He admitted in an interview he would have been fired here.

Are you saying everyone is gunna be scared to coach here just because one guy was 10 years ago?

It has to be the hardest place on the league to play and coach. Ex-players have talked about it on podcasts.
We have a unique family situation going on now with the Brunsons and Villanova crew making it comfortable for each other that works.

Jay Wright plays short rotations. Non starter.

The talent level with these Knicks being so undeniably high at this point renders all the old reasons why coaches didn't want the job here irrelevant.

Yeah, its not worth it to come to this media torture chamber to coach David Lee, Nate Robinson, Jarred Jeffries, Chris Duhon, or Carmelo and some G-League bodies. But now you have arguably the best starting five in the NBA, all controllable for four years, AND a highly competent and creative front office?

They could literally get anybody they wanted, of who is actually available. Nobody is turning down the Knicks job at this point, regardless of the pressure cooker, the owner, or the expectations. They've put irrefutable, championship level talent in place for the first time since the 70s (yes, I'm not including my beloved 90s teams in that category, they were as much or more heart/grit as they were talent). Leon would have the pick of the litter.

We've had top tier coaches like Dantoni and Van Gundy resign from coaching here during the season. The great Pat Riley faxed in his resignation while the team was still a contender. If fans say the team is really good then you will get all the blame if you dont win a championship. I think most coaches would be terrified to come here under this pressure to win right now.

Thibs is crazy and does not give a f*** what the fans tell him to do. Thats a huge reason they turned it around. These players under a former regime would be just as bad as before. Most people here did not want any of them especially KAT.

Nobody would have an issue with Thibs if he played his starters less and utilized his bench.

I would. Less of an issue, sure, but I still believe his actual coaching chops and style/system are pretty easily countered by the truly elite class. Minutes was never my number one issue with Thibs, though it is highly problematic and holds the greatest potential for catastrophe. My biggest problem is that his approach offensively is simplistic, unstructured, and relatively inflexible.

Thibs is an absolute genius at the motivational aspects of coaching - top notch, best of the best. His actual coaching, specifically on the offensive side, is a fatal flaw for me personally. It's the main reason why I highly doubt his ability to take championship talent to a championship.

I don't know if there's much of a litter out there. I paid attention to the Raptors search after Nick Nurse. They lost out on Ime Udoka before they had a chance. Atkinson interviewed, Jordi Fernandez was a finalist (and they should have hired him over Darko), I think Charles Lee was a candidate. Seems like some good coaches have been taken the last year or so, but I'm sure there's someone out there.

I still don't think Knicks will change mid season, more likely next summer. Either way it will be interesting if assistant Brunson is not retained by a new head coach.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

What happened to you? You were Mr. Positivity for so long. That 9 game winning streak just ended last week. You had me doubting my doubts.

I'm always positive but I dont ignore facts. Thibs is the other area we need to evolve in. That 9 game winning streak was achieved on
sheer will and effort by our players. However, OKC really exposed our coach IMO.

OKC exposes every coach in the league! Thib is a keeper cause no one available is better.

So. Can we hire Kenny Atkinson still? No? Shyt. What about Ime Udoka? No? Damn. We need to figure this out. Maybe we can get JVG! He has to be tired of his brother's voice like the rest of us.
