Residual/shrink got me thinking Suns/Lakers/Blazers

Only if each of those trades reduces their salary

Nurkic makes $18.1. Grayson Allen makes $15.6
Brogdan makes $22.5. Valanciunas makes $9.9

If they could aggregate, they could trade $33.7 for $32.4, and not take back more money.

Unfortunately, since they’re over the 2nd apron, that’s illegal. Brogdan is off-limits unless they trade a more expensive player.

So this exchange got me thinking. Could the Suns use the value in Allen to get a more interesting center than Nurkic? And this is that attempt. This happens at the deadline and assumes the Suns think Williams/Wood can play

Suns trade: Nurkic/26 DEN 2nd/31 Better of DEN/PHX 2nd
Suns get: Rui

Suns trade: Allen
Suns get: Williams/Wood

Done as two separate trades to avoid aggregation.

Lakers trade: Rui/Vincent/Wood/JHS/Better of 25 LAC/LAL 2nd
Lakers get: Nurkic/Allen

Blazers trade: Williams
Blazers get: Vincent/JHS/ 25 LAL/LAC 2nd, 26 DEN 2nd/31 DEN/PHX 2nd

Blazers get 3 2nds out of an injury prone guy at a position where they have a max player and their center of the future

Lakers turn Rui into Allen with DFS here now and Nurkic actually fills a need at center for them.

Suns gamble on two injured centers for the guy they are currently over and get a bigger bench shooter in Rui for balance.

Not bad.

Not sure if I would scrap 40 years without a LAL-POR trade but I am in the minority.

I don't. But Suns have one more 2nd to add and the Lakers could add another as well. But I've always been lower on Williams' value because he gives you so few games. Suns are desperate so willing to gamble that they get him in enough games and he provides some defense that Nurkic doesn't.

But I don't see a bidding war here.

I kinda like having rw3 around until someone gives a good enough reason to send him... there are more seconds or expiring to be found

I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get a 1st round pick back

I'm prepared to eat crow but I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if he does.

Well, either way, I hope we find out at/near the trade deadline

I’ll do it for the lakers. Lose ability to trade before deadline but probably not the worst outcome.

Right, this is about the bare minimum value I’d take for RWIII, but I wouldn’t want to trade with the Lakers for such a bare minimum move. Are those the better of those 2nds or the worse? Because part of me is fine just keeping RW to show Clingan extra defensive tips. He is the only vet I don’t want badly traded.
