Adversity brings out everyone's true character. We'll see how the guys respond to this but I am begging for ASB to come.

One thing that shouldn't go unnoticed is that KAT's rim protection has came back to earth unfortunately. In the month of January he has a DFG% of 66.7% at protecting the rim which is extremely bad. While I have been really enjoying his dominance on offense and I think he should be the #1 option, I still don't think our defense will be any good with him as our anchor. We need to get a rim protecting 5 but who can also stretch the floor so they aren't clogging the paint like Gobert did next to KAT. Someone who fits this bill is Myles Turner.

What would Turner cost in trade?

Listened a little to KFTV and Macri. My expectations have been adjusted for this year. We are not at that level yet....and that's ok. We have a little time. We know the bench issues and size issues...both fixable. "Wing stop,' looked like 'Stopped wings" tonight. OG you gotta work on that handle. We'll be ok.

Clyde and Breen basically called OKC championship contenders and the Knicks championship pretenders last night.

What an embarrassment.

So we are one of THOSE teams. Beat who we should. Lose to our betters. Probably a iittle better than .525 once the season is done. As stands now. 43 to 47 wins. Heaven compared to pre Thibs, but nowhere near the dreams that stretches like last Jan/Feb and the recent 8 game streak dangled before our eyes. Almost back to skipping games and checking box scores the next day. I loved last year's team more also. They were punching up; now we are treading water.

jvsimonetti0514 wrote:The Teams getting embarrassed a lot lately and think it ties directly towards their slow starts. Not sure if it can be fatigue when it’s at the beginning of the game. They’ve basically stopped hitting shots. It’s been a few weeks for both OG and Brunson and it looks like Mikal’s joined them too. I can buy that’s fatigue but there’s deeper issues at play. The jumper thing looks like it’s gotten in brunson’s head cuz outside of the game in OKC, he hasn’t really made the right play either. I feel for them cuz the rarely get officiated the same as the other team but it doesn’t excuse him for missing so many passes.

Team doesn’t have enough shot creation either. Slowing down Brunson really breaks the whole offense down. Thunder kept sending doubles at him and no one could help him or take advantage of it. Pretty much everyone panicked. It makes sense to try to get towns more involved and run the offense through him but is it smart to run the ball through the post. It’s not 1995 anymore. It still might be worth a try. There’s a bunch of issues and I’m not sure there’s really any answers.

I think it's multiple things.

First off, I think Clyde is spot on. The team got it's ass handed to it in that 4th quarter in OKC and that, combined with whatever internal ego politics has the team checked out. They might be checking out on Thibs as well, pissed at the minutes and the offense in general. It's something.

Then, it's January. Teams scout each other, of course, but I think the "book" on a team is more fully written by January, since teams have offseason additions and subtractions, maybe tweaked their offense and defense, etc.

I think every team in the league now knows how to defend this offense, so now the offense looks like dogsh*t and the team isn't hitting it's 3s.

Is fatigue a factor at times? Sure. AT TIMES. But there's the beginning of games. And individual players go into shooting slumps (besides any player having a bad one off game) and teams slump. But this is different.

I think that the Hawks, Orlando and OKC gave the league a formula on how to defend the Knicks and most teams are copying it. The Knicks out talent the bad teams. Teams that are halfway decent or good, with a coaching staff committed to any kind of excellence kick their ass.

Lastly, this is something that's been an issue with Thibs. Not going to take credit for this observation now, since it was Nodope or someone else, but Thibs doesn't do well against good teams. What I've noticed in the past, and commented on, is something similar, and that's Thibs teams struggle against defensively well coached, prepared teams. In the past that was Miami, whoever. This year, it's Orlando and OKC.

Thibs lacks the innovation to get the most out of his players and gets exposed against coaches who know and give a f*ck about what they are doing.

He might be losing the team.

Tom is a cool guy. They need to "promote" him to an office job.

As head coach, he cannot take the Knicks, or any team, to the promised land.

Problem is, he just got paid. He's our Aaron Rogers now. 8-)

If you get the Brunson switch against SGA or Jdub, attack it straight away with no pick. 70% shooting against that.

Rinse and repeat.

That’s why Brunson and KAT can never work. Two black holes on defense.

Afraid you are right. Adding Mitch will help some in the paint though.
Brunson is a bit weak as a defender, so the point of attack will always be weak defensively.

And there is our other problem. Too bad we let Bryant go.

Plenty of teams are defensively weak at the 1-2 and still have better defense than us. Those teams are flaring, trapping, active hands, rotating, switching, mixing in zones and other coverages. All things that are possible when your team is energized and able to give max effort.

The Cavs were running a lineup with garland, okoro, dean wade, Ty Jerome, and Allen out there in the clutch against OKC starters. Threw some zone in there and played competitive defense. They closed the game with garland, Mitchell, and strus all on the floor. Go back and watch how active they are and flying all around the perimeter. None of them are great defenders.

OKC offense isn’t anything incredible. We just lack the energy and coaching required to defend any reasonably good offense.

Good point - if the Cavs whom we trounced when they had basically the same team EXCEPT the coach can play wtih OKC, then we should be able to, Even at OKC we had the game well in hand TILL we didn't in the 4th quarter. But no way should we get our asses kicked at MSG like this.

I guess it could be Brunson but, it doesn't really hit me that there is an ego problem on the court. The HC ego is definitely noticeable though. Stubborn/set in his ways/lack of adjustment etc etc. Is there a players only meeting on the horizon?

AR never got us to the playoffs.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

I just don't see any ego issues on the court but, things have definitely changed from a week ago. The book is out on us. Teams know exactly how to beat our defense and stop our offense. Thibs doesn't have any answers and doesn't make any noticable adjustments so, his ego is on full display IMO.
