Grizzlies-Wizards trade 2nd try
Simple trade:
The Grizzlies get Valanciunas and the Wizards get Aldama+Konchar
Why?
The Grizzlies weakest spot is arguably at center and Jonas addresses this need. He is well known to the organization and many of the current players. He is having a good and productive season and is signed for 2 more years at a cost controlled $10 million. With this transaction, the Grizzlies save on future salary (and potential tax penalties) not having to pay Konchar $6 million/year for 2 more seasons plus having to resign Aldama in the offseason in the region of $15-25 million/year.
For the Wizards, they get their PF of the future who should pair well with Sarr. Konchar is the cost of doing business, and necessary to make salaries match in the trade.

Re: Grizzlies-Wizards trade 2nd try
I have Aldama clearly more valuable and can't see the Grizzlies using him to dump Konchar's small deal for a part-time center.

The deal is probably Konchar/2nd or two for JV. Wizards get a little something, save a little salary. Grizzlies get a veteran center for the rotation.

Re: Grizzlies-Wizards trade 2nd try
The Grizzlies learnt long time ago that JV is useless in PO. That was the reason they traded him. And then Adams.
Anyway, with Konchar, I believe Memphis wants to clear cap space, not to replace one redundant role player with another on the larger contract.

Re: Grizzlies-Wizards trade 2nd try
An important consideration for Grizzlies fans is: can they afford to pay Aldama $15-25mn/year in the offseason? The roster is stacked already and their weakest spot is at center.

Sorry I don't think we would have any interest in a JV reunion. Huff is playing great in the minutes that JV would take.

If they can't pay him and would prefer to trade him now rather than keep him for a playoff run they would simply trade him for actual value and if they still wanted JV they could get him as I listed above.
You don't just give value away like this over financials. His playoff run value is greater than JV's value.
I see why you want him for the Wizards, but you need to give Memphis a real reason to trade him to you. You haven't.

Yes, why not? After Kennard and LaRavia walk we will have plenty of breathing room under the tax.

Would that be enough to pay Aldama +$20 million/year? JJJ's contract is expiring in 2025-26 and he will command the max. I know that Smart's contract also expires then, but I am not sure if the numbers would work as Konchar and Clark will be also in the books. Unless you tell me that the Grizzlies ownership are willing to pay a hefty tax.

I don't have Smart walking at 32 as any type of irreparable loss. Honestly, I think he's taking a payout regardless. The only relevant question here is whether another team would beat an offer of JV and the answer is yes.

Agreed. That is a given. But even in that case, I am not sure the Grizzlies will have enough room to pay Aldama in the offseason and not pay the tax. If they are willing to do so, fair enough...

Re: Grizzlies-Wizards trade 2nd try
The grizzlies, if trying to remove Konchar, should do something like;
John goes to Washington, Washington sends Johnny Davis to some 3rd team, Grizzlies acquire some 3rd team’s role player on a somewhat similar contract as John.
I’m not sure they really need to remove John’s contract at this point though

Yes. we will have roughly 27m before hitting the tax next offseason after those guys walk and we sign our draft picks. Plus Konchar is not a bad player, moving off his all or some of his money is not going to be that hard if needed. The following year we likely let Smart walk and still have room to give JJJ his raise. And I know it likely will come at shock to some people but I don't think we are going to as tax averse as many expect here. I think we will be fine going over a few years at the peak of our core, our owner has set several times that is the plan. Our cap sheet is clean for a top 8 team.

Grizz are not doing any deal were we are not receiving the best player or asset.

As to LRV, Memphis declined Kennard’s TO, too…

Re: Grizzlies-Wizards trade 2nd try
Unfortunately… This trade doesn’t efficiently meet the needs for either team. For Memphis, they lose a homegrown win now player. This might not make them any better this year, and certainly doesn’t make them better for the playoffs and in the years ahead.
For DC, We get a guy entering his prime that will help win games. Problem is, we don’t want to win games this year and need a top eight pick next year to keep it protected.
There’s a reason they traded Deni to Portland during the draft despite being locked up long-term… We are in a FULL teardown
