I think that will be the Bears order. Vrabel will go the Pats. Raiders or Bears for Ben. If Bears don’t get Ben it will be Carrol with his hire of coach in waiting. I bet Carrol coaches 3 seasons and turn it over.

It’d be a failure missing out on Ben but Carrol is a massive upgrade to Flus and Waldron. He’d build culture and professionalism and the team would always be prepared.

If the Bears swing and miss on Johnson, I won’t be mad at all if they hire Carroll.

I want Ben Johnson as my top choice. I think his offensive schemes work. The Lions are fun to watch on the offensive side. If we can't land him then I'd settle for Carroll with a good staff. Carroll would probably turn the situation around faster due to his experience. But Johnson, if he performs as a HC close to his performance as the OC, could be our coach for a decade or more. He knows the division, and he knows the guys he'll be up against twice a year.

My fear for addressing the OL via free agency is that we’ll get guys like this guy, the OL guys we picked up last offseason, and guys that are washed up like Orlando Pace in 2009.

When teams have amazing OL, they keep them. That’s why I think we may have to address the OL in the draft.

Allegedly no media were credentialed for the game, only agents and scouts. There is also no live broadcast of the game this year. With only a 3 am Monday morning replay on CBSSN providing the possibility to see it." w.t.f.

For the few that may care..... I found a live telecast on DirecTV, on the 'Renew' channel 324. It's not HD and the audio doesn't match with the video, a slight delay. I can probably count the number of fans in the stands, looks weird with only ~1000 fans in a 60,000+ seat stadium. Main reason I even give a darn is because Missouri Tigers QB Brady Cook is playing and has gotten very good reviews during practice. A few WRs have also been spoken of very highly. Most of these players are 3rd day NFL picks or UDFA signings.

Ben has a loaded line, backs, targets and such. No opening is going to offer him that. It's why he's been reluctant to leave. His schemes won't be that effective with the dreadful line here.

But BJ knows what works. And he'll figure out what we need to be successful and hopefully work closely with Poles to fill our needs. We have Free Agent money, Draft capital, and a QB (I think). With the right coaching, a Free agent pick-up or two, and a good draft the Bears can turn this thing around in the off season. If we had had another coach this year we would probably not have finished as badly as we did. At least 8-9. Considering how tough our division is (arguably the toughest in the NFL top to bottom) we were actually competitive. Stupid mistakes, lack of preparation, poor schemes and terribly inadequate coaching killed us. Eburflus alone probably cost us at least 3 games. Waldron was a disaster. If we address the trenches, get a better RB in the 3rd round like Nick Singleton, hire competent coaches, and add a few new starters in Free Agency we could easily be in the playoffs next year despite the tough schedule.

No. Hell no. No more defensive minded HCs. As a DC maybe. But I want an offensive mind as a HC. The offense has been crap for far too long. A better offense would make the defense that much better by keeping them off the field longer. Time of Possession kills our defense, they get worn down by the 3 and outs.

It's not like the Bears are devoid of talent on the offensive side. 3 very good receivers, a good TE, an explosive back, and a QB in only his second year. Just need to fix the line, and we should be fine talent-wise. Better than the other teams he's looking at.

If the Bears can't land Ben Johnson, I will coinsider this rock bottom for the organization. Despite the record, the Bears have a better roster than NE and LV, plus the Raiders have nobody at QB

So much chicken little happening

We can miss on Ben Johnson and still get a great coach maybe even one better than Ben Johnson who I’ll admit looks tasty but you never know.

It almost feels like it was meant to be with the Patriots and Vabrel. The mutual interest has been rumored for quite some time now. Similar to the Bears and Ben Johnson.

He’s actually coached some pretty wretched rosters to respectability. The Bears especially could hire worse. Quite frankly I expect the Bears the reach for the top shelf of coaches (Vrabel, Ben Johnson), and fail to land either for Bears reasons. And they’re very possibly left shopping on the Rivera, Carroll, Flores shelf. Like, right now, I have a hard time seeing the Bears going for a coordinator past Ben Johnson, but they sure are bringing a parade of them in to look at.

Two possible outcomes I am disappointed with, but kind of expect and tolerate are Flores or Carroll (with a good young OC). Actually, Flores is somewhat intriguing. He would bring back an identity to the Bears, and has upside left. I have wanted him in Chicago for awhile. Rivera would be pretty disappointing, but not a total disaster. A pretty Bearish outcome. The one outcome I have kind of stopped hoping for is a top shelf hire. I have given up all hope on the Bulls, the White Sox, climate change policy, gun policy, United States federal government/voters, and a high level of Chicago Bears competency under the McCaskey family. These are the worst of times.

If the Bears brought in any coordinator other than Brady (and BJ of course), I won’t be surprised. Just sort of gutted, because it is difficult to imagine Bears not moving off of Eberflusian hire performance levels at this point. Even the Bears have to improve a little. Even the Bears.
